About Ted Sum

Ted Sum is a partner of Smart & Biggar, Canada’s largest boutique firm practising exclusively in intellectual property and technology law. Ted’s practice covers all aspects of intellectual property, with particular emphasis on licensing, commercialization, patent and trademark prosecution, due diligence, e-commerce, privacy, security and counselling clients on IP strategy and management. Ted works with clients across a wide range of sectors, including clients involved in high tech, software and IT, telecommunications, robotics, AI and machine learning, life science, energy, clean tech, chemicals, transportation, aerospace, and defense, amongst others. He has extensive experience advising on a broad range of IP matters involving the research, development, acquisition, clearance, commercialization and exploitation of products, technology and IP.
