Background

About Thierry Biniguer

28 years veteran of the embedded system design industry. I began my career for Philips in the 90’s by contributing to the development of the earliest GSM mobile phone in France. I worked on several software solutions for a large number of drivers and tools (Display, Battery, E2prom, I2C, Memories management, software download for mass production and many others) until then specified (internal or external: 3GPP tests certification), developed, integrated and matured modem stacks solutions (GSM, GPRS, EDGE) in collaboration with the network infrastructures and operators, mainly ALCATEL-LUCENT in 2001-2009 where I played a key role (IOT lab technical leader) through a partnership. I contributed in the stabilization of 3G/LTE chipset solutions by realizing tests (3GPP tests, worldwide Inter-Operability tests, field tests) in order to have the Certifications for our official system solutions and also supporting directly customers (mainly SAMSUNG) in private and official labs. By developing the Widevine DRM and content protection (2013-2015), I enforced my knowledge in other domains: security (TEE, Global Platform, Trust zone) and Android (CNAM certificate). I met many cultures and people outside and inside in various Embedded System Development organizations for Philips, Philips Semiconductor, NXP, ST-Ericsson and for ST, within the microcontroller division. I contributed to the development of IOT oriented frameworks with cellular connectivity promoted in miscellaneous congress, worldwide (Embedded World 2018/Nuremberg) or more restricted (Euro 2018/Marseille) by using high-level languages for faster devices programming (Java script, Java, …) and also ensuring the efficient running in X-cube Cloud packages (Cellular to Cloud packs with STM32L496 : P-L496G-CELL01 and P-L496G-CELL02). Now, I have been developing applications with MiddleWares security (mbed TLS, MCUBoot, Trusted Firmware M) and cryptographic layers (symmetric, asymmetric, hash) addressing Crypto Hardware accelerators. More and more aware of the security vulnerabilities, I learnt the protection mechanisms (SW and HW: secure coding, fault injection hardening, isolation : MPU, TrustZone) and apply them in C and assembler (for Cortex-M based microcontrollers). I participated to the architecture’s definition and technical writing for integrating a secure element and setting up of other secure components including secure boot, trusted firmware, and secure debug with cryptographic services. I wrote patents and technical documents for publication on internet.
