About Thomas P. Bonacci

Thomas P. Bonacci, C.P. is a Passionist Priest from Pittsburgh, PA who has ministered in the Diocese of Oakland since 1990. Tom is a graduate of St. John’s University, New York City. After Ordination to the Catholic priesthood in 1972, he served as religious superior and Retreat Director in Pittsburgh, PA and New York City. He also served as chaplain at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and Carlow University at Pittsburgh PA. Tom has served as hospital chaplain for several hospitals for the past forty years. He served as Religious Superior of St. Paul of the Cross Monastery and chaplain at St. Paul’s Manor for the Elderly in Pittsburgh, PA. In 2001, he established the Interfaith Center at Carlow University where he taught Sacred Scripture. Tom is the founder of the Interfaith Peace Project of Contra Costa County, a home-based educational outreach providing introductions to the religions of the world. He is also Director of the Interfaith Center in Antioch which opened in October 2007. Tom conducts Interfaith Seminars for the School of Applied Theology, Oakland, California and the Interfaith Chaplaincy School, Berkeley, CA. Tom continues to conduct adult educations classes in Interfaith Spirituality and Sacred Scripture. Tom was one of fifty worldwide finalists nominated in 2011 for the COEXIST award for his interfaith work. In 2011, Tom established the Institute for the Study of the Passion which probes the issues of religion and violence. Tom ministers at the Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center of Citrus Heights, CA. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Interreligious and Ecumenical Commission for the Catholic Diocese of Oakland, CA and the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County. Recently, The Interfaith Peace Project was awarded a grant from the San Francisco Foundation for the Interreligious celebration of the International Women’s Day, March 8, 2015.
