About Timothy Bruce

I was awarded a Masters' Degree in Bioproducts and Biosystems Science, Engineering and Management in July of 2013 from the University of Minnesota. I tried to make this program dovetail with my previous work at the U many years ago in Solid Waste Management with Tom Halbach and others. My area of special interest is deriving value from the materials and energy inherent in the things we currently dispose of. I bring engineering, business and policy tools to the task of making our society more energy efficient and less wasteful of resources. In the BBE Department at the UMN, I polished some of my engineering and computational skills and combined them with a healthy new portion of economics and finance. I wrote my thesis on the current technical, economic and socio-political impediments to the commercialization of energy-from-waste technologies in the United States. The new MS degree enabled me to renew my professional teaching license for physics and chemistry. I have been doing mostly long-term chemistry teaching jobs ever since, though I can't see doing it for much longer as it is a very high stress occupation for very little income. Interested in opportunities in my strongest fields, which are projects, policies and operations in the solid waste management field. I still live in South Minneapolis near Lake Hiawatha and Lake Nokomis. I am not interested in relocating out of the Twin Cities metro area for employment as I have innumerable cultural, artistic and personal connections here (you know who you are!)
