At 13, I decided that the solution for a better world was to work for something that would generate a positive and inclusive impact in the environment and ecosystem in which I live. That’s why I landed in Africa, the continent where I live and work. From a graduation thesis in which I carried out field research on the potential of responsible tourism in Eritrea, six months later I were in Maputo as an intern for CUAMM, perhaps the largest Italian health NGO. After a few months, I was community manager for the Clinton Foundation in Moma, south of Nampula - Mozambique, for 9 months and then in Beira, contracted by a large local NGO, Esmabama. Within a few years, I was appointed administrative manager and coordinator of the design and information gathering department. With 500 workers, we managed 3M€/year, students, boarders, a thousand hectares of wild pasture and agriculture, as well as providing hundreds medical consultations per month and a couple of assisted deliveries per day. I was offered the position of Director General - having not only managed the facility but also taken care of important previous tasks of the NGO - but in order to offer a "European" education to my children, I decided to accept a new assignment, in Tunis, for the Italian Refugee Council, an Italian NGO. In two years, through formal and informal contacts and project writing, I went from legalizing the CIR in Tunisia and managing, from a hotel room, 30K€/month, to having an office, about twenty subordinates between Tunisia and Libya, and managing 250k€/month. Lately, I have been country representative for AIFO, first in Guinea Bissau and now in Tunisia where we are technical consultants on disability for the local Ministry of Social Affairs. The experience has taught me that, once values are shared, finding synergies and creating value is not only possible, but also pleasant and funny.
