About Tom Brennan

I am an early career health researcher specialising in healthy ageing and the prevention of pre-frailty in middle-aged adults, using a mixed-methods, life-course approach.I have recently submitted my PhD at Flinders University, which comprised a multi-study programme of research including a systematic review, cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses, a proof-of-concept resistance training trial, and a co-design study with clinicians and community members.My research focuses on identifying early, modifiable risk factors for frailty, including behavioural, psychological, and lifestyle determinants, and translating these findings into practical, preventative strategies. This includes a particular interest in physical activity and exercise-based approaches to prevention.I have experience working across quantitative and qualitative methods, including longitudinal data analysis and co-design research, and have published in peer-reviewed journals (BMC Public Health, Preventive Medicine). My work has also been featured in New Scientist.I am particularly interested in:• healthy ageing and pre-frailty• physical activity and exercise-based prevention• behavioural and social determinants of health• intervention design and implementationI am currently seeking research or postdoctoral opportunities in the UK or Canada.
