Background
About Tom Cutts
I am currently Campus Coordinator at Blacktown Youth College - Lawson Campus. Blacktown Youth College (BYC) is an independent, alternative community school. BYC offers a diverse holistic program for young people, aged 14 to 20, who have become disengaged from education, but who are committed to learning and wish to complete their Year 10 studies. This includes students who have been excluded from or were not coping with mainstream schooling for various reasons and/or ‘at risk’ factors, such as homelessness, drug and alcohol abuse, or domestic violence. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Australian History and Aboriginal Studies from the University of New South Wales, graduating with Distinction. I also hold a 4-year Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) from Charles Sturt University and I am an accredited History, Aboriginal Studies, and Society and Culture high school teacher. I made the Dean’s List at CSU for Academic Excellence. From 2014 I was employed as an Academic Pathways Teacher at UWS College’s Kingswood and Lithgow campuses. I have taught Australian Studies, Texts and Communications, Cultural Perspectives, Academic Study Skills, Introduction to the Australian Legal System, and I have acted as the Learning Centre teacher at Kingswood and Lithgow. I have also covered Academic English on occasion at Lithgow. I have contributed to curriculum resources across various subjects and in particular for Australian Studies (FS) for which I am acknowledged as a ‘contributor’. I have experience teaching 7-12 History, Aboriginal Studies, Geography, Society and Culture and English at mainstream high school level. I have experience teaching all other KLA’s on a relief/casual basis at mainstream high school level.
