About Tom Wakefield

I believe people perform their best and are most fulfilled when their personal interests and core values align not only with their work, but the culture of the team and organization they belong to. That’s why I always ask a prospective employee “what gives you energy?” It’s a chance to evaluate an individual’s potential fit. Personally, there are five aspects of my professional life that have regularly given me energy. These define who I am as an employee, colleague, leader and mentor- Making a difference drives me- Managing people and helping them develop their “peak selves” is more rewarding than any trophy I’ve earned- Leading from a place of authenticity grounds me and helps others trust in my vision- Delivering results and being outcome-oriented provides me with focus- Doing what’s right sometimes means doing what’s hard, but it’s always worth the effort. Years ago, a client remarked “Tom, you’re a private sector thinker in a public sector job.” He meant I’m someone who is solution oriented, challenges unnecessary process and sets expectations high. After 20 years of professional Communications experience, I’m happy to say the description still fits.
