About Toneh S.

I am a Reverend, Licensed clinical social worker, certified trauma therapist and EMDR therapist with a master’s degree in Social Work and Health Service Administration. I have over 18 years’ experience working in the non -profit industry. In those 18 years I worked as: a program director for residential programs for adults with mental disabilities, a case manager for homeless veterans, the Secretary Board of Director for a veteran’s transitional housing organization, worked directly with shelters throughout Philadelphia promoting the integration of mental health/addiction services into housing initiatives and a compliance analyst for a behavioral health insurance company under the Philadelphia Department of Health and Intellectual disAbility Services. I was ordained as Deacon on June 17, 2017 with the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. I am passionate about uplifting the marginalized by building solidarity and proclaiming the gospel amongst all communities. I As the Canon for Mission I engage churches, communities, and other denominations in: addressing systematic societal conditions that undermine human dignity such as discrimination, food insecurity, economic hardship, addiction, and access to education. Since joining the Bishop’s staff as canon, she has created the Veterans Ministry, 5 parish wellness centers (including social worker and nursing students), introduced Mental Health First Aide trainings to the diocese, and Narcan trainings. As a therapist I help individuals and couples recognize patterns, process trauma, and explore experiences that might be troubling or causing barriers.
