About Tracy Johnston

I am an experienced independent Director and Board Chair, tourism destination manager, organisational leader and qualified marketer. I have a professional career in the tourism industry working both offshore and across New Zealand. I have built extensive knowledge and networks within both the viticulture & wine and tourism sectors and more recently in the vocational education sector. I am passionate about regional economic development and recognise the importance of a balanced portfolio of drivers to contribute to a thriving regional economy. I am a natural communicator and connector thriving on enabling opportunities between organisations and people. I take pride in being a proactive contributor to meetings and I am confident engaging in courageous conversations with an open mind to assess situations objectively, discuss and debate respectfully, then support the decisions and outcomes made at the board table. Conducting myself with integrity is of utmost importance to me. By drawing on the disciplines of good governance, I can contribute effectively even when not a subject matter expert. I believe boards of the future must have a strong focus on the purpose of the entity they are governing and consider the environmental, social and cultural drivers and contribution alongside economic targets to be successful. I am a motivational team leader. I like to lead by example and I am comfortable mucking in and doing what it takes to get the job done, and done well. I thrive on balancing work as a consultant with my governance roles and find the combination creates an invigorating and diverse portfolio of work to keep me inspired to do more.
