About Tyler Trahan

What's the thread that ties together my eclectic work history? An insatiable curiosity, a stubborn drive to learn new skills, and a knack for using those skills to solve business problems. As an educator at a museum that was contracting out exhibit interpretive label design, I volunteered to teach myself graphic design to bring the entire process in-house and save money. The results were more accurate since I was already the subject matter expert, lead educator, and content writer — and I was able to create a consistent visual identity within the museum that hadn't existed with the previous piecemeal approach. As a railroad conductor with some experience in game programming, I was asked to create new train dispatching software to replace a dated and increasingly-unreliable program. I qualified as a train dispatcher to understand the program's use, then chose and taught myself a new tech stack to design and build the web application. I've had similar experiences with video production, pedestrian wayfinding, journalism, GPS-driven train narration, public speaking and science demonstration performances, portrait and event photography, and more.
