Background
About Tyree Williams
Tyree Williams holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, with a strong foundation in Physics and a master's in Biomedical Engineering. His career is driven by a passion for translating research into healthcare solutions that make a meaningful impact on patient care. Tyree’s doctoral work focused on applying Biodesign principles to address unmet clinical needs in minimally invasive spine surgery, and he has a diverse background spanning both basic science and entrepreneurship. As a member of the inaugural cohort at the Center for Engineering and Precision Medicine, a collaboration between Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Tyree worked closely with clinicians to identify key gaps in spine surgery technologies. His research led to the development of innovative solutions aimed at improving bone cement technologies. In addition to his research, Tyree has been deeply involved in entrepreneurship within the MedTech space. He served as the entrepreneurial and technical lead for two teams in the NYC Regional I-Corps program, earning first place and a research grant in Mount Sinai's 2022 Pitch Challenge. He is also the founder of Kratos Technology, a company developing cutting-edge solutions for spine and orthopedic surgery. His long-term ambition is to delve deep into the MedTech ecosystem, work with companies or individuals who are leading the charge in innovation, leveraging his expertise to drive transformative healthcare innovations. Currently, Tyree serves as the Program Manager at the Discovery & Innovation Hub (DIH), where he leads initiatives aimed at reducing healthcare disparities and fostering innovation in health tech. He is particularly invested in DIH's fellowship programs, which provide opportunities to engage in health innovation and technology in a community-centered design approach.
