About Urszula Comi

I have defended my PhD dissertation titled: “Interim Measures in International Commercial Arbitration in Polish and English lex arbitrii” on 6 December 2023. I published two articles on international commercial arbitration in a renowned Polish peer-reviewed law journal in my field (KPP). To disseminate my work to the global audience, I am working on an English-language article on arbitral interim measures. During my PhD studies, I gained experience in teaching a course on private international law to undergraduate and master level students at the University of Warsaw. I also assisted a professor in conducting master seminars and supervising students in writing their MA thesis. In the meantime, I finished postgraduate studies on intellectual property and new technologies law. My MA thesis was awarded second place in the prestigious national competition for the best MA thesis on arbitration administered by the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw. In addition to my output my excellent organisation skills are proven by the fact that for three years I was reconciling my commitments connected with PhD studies with work at a law firm, and currently I reconcile the former with parental duties. As a student and later in my professional career, I had many opportunities to improve my organisation, communication and conciliation skills. I represented my university in the 22nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and our team was qualified to the round of 32. It was a very enriching experience to me as I met with students from all over the word and could exchange experiences and perspectives. As a student, I was also an active member of two student working groups, organizing and taking part in multiple conferences and events, such as MUN. Thanks to those achievements and very good marks, I received a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education for outstanding academic achievements. I also finished master studies in French and European Business Law on the University of Poitiers. I obtained my diploma ‘with honors’. What is more, in my professional career as a lawyer, I represented clients in mediation proceedings and I worked closely in a legal team, preparing together pleadings in difficult cases. Due to my organisation and writing skills, I was promoted early to the Senior Associate position at Staroń & Partners law firm.
