I have worked in various roles within Greggs for nearly 10 years, with around 7 years in a management positions, the most recent 4 years as a store manager. When I joined Greggs I was fast tracked into the Graduate Management Development Programme which taught me valuable managerial skills such as leading a team, problem solving and being motivational, which I have been able to apply within my role as both an assistant manager and store manager. My first store manager role was at small takings shop. Within two years of starting the position I was recognised as a gold standard manager and had increased weekly takings by approximately 40%. The dramatic success of the shop in a short period won us ‘area shop of the year’. This then shortlisted the store for ‘company shop of the year’ which enabled me to be part of the annual Greggs conference in Newcastle. In 2019 I became a store manager at a larger more prominent shop. Within 12 months I had developed the store and its team, contributing to a 20% increase in weekly takings. Since being open again after the first lock down, the shop has continued to increase its weekly sales, now taking nearly double the amount it did when I took on the role. While working at Greggs I have used the knowledge gained through my degree to excel in the food production and retail environment. The various positons I have held have allowed me to gain an in-depth knowledge of how the food retail business works as a whole. The skills and experience I have gained as a store manager, as well as the other roles I have held within Greggs, have equipped me with a good understanding of the food retail sector, customer service and business management processes that I am ready to apply to a new opportunity.
