About Victor Briz

I am a research specialist in Neuroscience with a strong background in biochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, and more than 19 years of experience in scientific research. Over the past few years, I have developed several research projects to study the effects of environmental contaminants such as pesticides and heavy metals in the brain. More recently, I have focused my research on the molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, which relates to the changes in the connections between neurons in response to experience, both under physiological (i.e. during learning) and pathological conditions (i.e. in animal models of neurological disorders). I have always been fascinated about how our environment (what we eat and drink and also the chemicals we are exposed to) as well as our life experiences can shape the neuronal connections in our brains and ultimately affect our cognitive abilities and even our behavior. I would like to continue my career in academia or industry to further explore the interactions between genes and environment both in the context of health and disease. Professional skills- Planning, designing and leading research projects- Writing and editing manuscripts and grant proposals- Teaching, mentoring and supervising students- Solving complex tasks and troubleshooting- Working under high pressure and timely meeting deadlines. I consider myself an enthusiastic, collaborative and social person, with excellent organizational, communication and networking skills, and highly capable of working as part of a team.
