About Vincent Mitchell

Upon first glance of my profile you may realize that I have a slight fascination with Japan. Well, for me, Japan is what made me who I am today. I first attended a Japanese class in university on a whim. I had no prior knowledge of the language and only had a crude introduction to Japanese culture. Little did I know that it would define my life. After my first year of study I was so passionate about the language that I immediately applied for it to be come my secondary major. Consequentially, this decision held me back in school for an extra three years, but I felt the end result would justify the decision and I was motivated to succeed. During my study, I met many wonderful people, learned much about the culture, and practiced my Japanese language skills whenever possible. I even studied abroad in Japan for 11 months at Yokohama National University, where I met even more wonderful people (Japanese and from the rest of the world), experienced the culture firsthand, and greatly improved my language capabilities. And in my final year of study I was nominated as the "Most Outstanding Graduating Senior" from the Japanese Language Program at San Diego State University. I hope to utilize my Japanese in my career, whether it is translating or working in Japan. I am motivated to make it a reality.
