About Jane Cloninger

I am an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. JET is a Japanese governmental program aimed at promoting grassroots international exchange across Japan. I am an English teacher (T1) in two public high schools in Hyogo Prefecture. In my prior experience as an Environmental Engineer with CDM Smith, I was a key contributor to the Sustainability and Nature-Based Solutions disciplines. My project portfolio included performing sustainability assessments for industrial decarbonization efforts, leading R&D and implementation of social sustainability metrics, analyzing wetland ecology and restoration efforts in the bayous of Louisiana, and studying emerging pesticides for ecotoxicological effects. Both as an engineer and in my current role as a teacher, I am passionate about building community, prioritizing environmental justice, and making STEM accessible. I am a graduate of Chemical Engineering, Sustainability Studies, and Geography at The University of Texas at Austin. At UT Austin, I gained ample experience in student affairs, mentorship, and equity in higher education. Through roles including Resident Assistant, mentor for the Women in Engineering Program, Camp Texas Counselor, and Texas Tour Guide, I've connected with thousands of students seeking higher education. I am an experienced, intentional, and genuine community builder.
