About Vuyani Madikane

Helping people has always been my passion. This only becoming clear once I started working. I began my career with Platinum Group where I found that I really enjoyed assisting either my stylist team in achieving targets or just hearing out a problem a product team member might have and to offer solutions where I can. Added to this work experience is the one year internship I completed with Amazing Lives Consulting & Projects (ALCP), where I learnt management consulting principles, particularly around organisational psychology, strategic human resources management and modelling, industrial relations, performance management strategies and organisational analysis. This role allowed me to prepare for my current role as a Junior Consultant. Having completed a DISC assessment which classified me as a ‘Coach’ someone who enjoys solving what they refer to as ‘people problems’, I consider this to be my unique value proposition (UVP). The ability to apply organisational psychology principles to assist in understanding the business and its individuals. Coupled with my passion for people and mental health at work, this allows me to better understand individuals within their contexts and therefore understand what drives them and how to unlock their best potential. This speaks to how I ended up in my first management role as one of the Assistant Business Partners (store managers) at Urban Degree with a focus on Recruitment and Training of new members. During my studies I was hired as a tutor in the Psychology Department. I tutored 3 groups of second year Organisational Psychology students which made around 44 students in total. In this role I assisted the students with organisational health psychology, organisational effectiveness, organisational design and career psychology, while taking them through additional assignments and test materials, then marking them and giving feedback based on learning outcomes or modules. Fast forward two degrees later, I was in a position again that helped other people to achieve their truest potential as the Organisational Psychology Intern. In this role, I used organisational psychology principles in order to gain an understanding of a business and the people within that organisation. I assisted the lead consultant implement various Organisational Development initiatives as recommended by business objectives for the client. There was also a human capital administrator element to my role, where I assisted with on-boarding new staff members, helped administer disciplinary hearings as well as manage performance reviews.
