About Walter de Simone

I graduated with the highest marks from the University of L'Aquila with a Master's degree in Management of Terrestrial and Freshwater Ecosystems. My thesis, titled "New UAV Technologies to Support Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Environmental Analysis and Diagnosis for a Mountain Quarry," explored innovative applications of drone technology in environmental monitoring. During my PhD, I specialized in satellite remote sensing techniques and machine learning applications for studying ecosystem disturbances, with particular focus on wildfire impacts and invasive species monitoring. Following my doctoral studies, I served as a Post-doctoral Researcher on the project "Analysis and Monitoring of Ecosystemic Disturbances Through Innovative Techniques of Geostatistics and Remote Sensing." Currently, I work as a Technical Specialist in Geoservices at Planeterk Italia, where I apply my expertise in GIS and remote sensing to urban development planning, landscape analysis, habitat assessment, and vegetation monitoring. As a certified UAV pilot with an ENAC-issued license, I conduct comprehensive territorial analyses including photogrammetry, 3D terrain modeling, and multispectral vegetation analysis. My technical skill set extends to advanced graphics software for vector, raster, and video editing, which I integrate seamlessly with Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing applications to deliver comprehensive environmental solutions.
