The Executive Network Inc. was established and incorprated in the 1980's by Walter & Rosemary Donald. The 1980's was a challenging decade. Interest rates were in the high double digits. Companies were downsizing and / or closing. Corporate leaders who had never had to look for a job in their lives were being "let go". International trade to and from North America was shifting in volume from across the Atlantic to across the Pacific. The way business was being done, the way leaders were being chosen was changing radically."Knowing and Trusting" the people with whom you would choose to work or do business became very important. Effective Networking meant that you needed to earn other people's trust before they would do business with you. How many people you knew didn't matter as much as how many and how much people trusted you. T.R.U.S.T. i.e."Truth, Respect, Understanding, Service, Trust." became "Priority One." Values mattered as much or more than skills when organizations were recruiting or promoting people. Was it a passing fad? NO it was not. Over forty years later Leaders are being held to account for their values as much or more than for their skills. You want and need to know the person. You want and need to know if you can trust them BEFORE you will do business with them and if you discover that your TRUST in them wasn't deserved you will not do business with them. Will you? Isn't this how things work now? Isn't TRUST what you expect in others? Isn't TRUST what others expect from you? Effective Networking still means that you need to become known and trusted by others. Effective Networking still means that you need to get to know and trust others. BEFORE: They will hire you. They will do business with you. They will keep you in their business or personal network.
