About Wayne Josias

Before assuming the role of Deputy Chief Fire Officer at the Cape Winelands District Municipality in 2006, I served as a Station Officer at the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, where I had been employed since 1993. I possess over 30 years of experience in Fire Services and local government, having operated primarily in diverse and challenging environments, which has equipped me with the ability to adapt to a variety of situations. As the Chief Fire Officer of Cape Winelands Fire Services, I am responsible for leading the organization and overseeing the personnel in Operations, Support Services, and the Fire Training Section. This involves the management of approved budgets, processes, and associated administrative duties. Our Fire Service is established in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act 99 of 1987, which governs the establishment, maintenance, coordination, and standardization of Fire Brigade Services, among other related matters. Our mission is to provide effective and efficient services to our community throughout the district, with the objective of saving lives, livelihoods, property, and the environment. I founded the Cape Winelands Fire and Rescue Training Academy, which regularly conducts training courses that invite fire personnel from across the Western Cape Province. Since its establishment, we have successfully trained many Fire Officers, which has significantly enhanced our services. In compliance with the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act 56 of 2003 and the relevant Municipal Regulations, I obtained my Municipal Minimum Competency Level (MMCL). This qualification has reinforced my leadership abilities, enabling me to develop and empower my staff while efficiently managing the resources allocated for sustainable service delivery.
