Background
About Will Harris
My first rule of ministry is simple: show up. Over my years of ministry, I have come to realize that the most important part of ministry is the connections we make along the way. Those connections give us the ability to speak into someone else's life, by sharing in their story, if only for a brief time. You never earn the ability to speak into someone's life if they have no idea who you are. So show up. I have been in ministry as a leader since 2015. In 2015 I found opportunities to serve and worked part-time at The Way Community Church while attending Southeastern University. This time in my life was full of wonder and change as I was serving in a paid position for the first time in my life, assisting the pastor and helping organize events. This was also when I was participating in two ministries I would come to run: Charge! and Anchor House. In all three of those ministry opportunities, the tasks needed to be done, but truly were secondary to the people we would interact with. This lead to me developing a habit of coming early. Then, I could complete tasks and have more time for people. After all, if I am stuck doing a task, we won't get the chance to meet each other. When I left SEU and The Way, I knew I was called to Higher Education, which brought me to Asbury Theological Seminary. From 2018-21 I pursued my Masters in Divinity while working at The Village Church. There I served on a Scholarship Position until my graduation in 2021 when the church formally brought me on part-time. Being on Scholarship I had time to pursue my studies and gain experience Pastoring both adults and youth. Through the complications of Covid, my experience varied greatly over the years but has led me to develop a series of skills I believe are imperative to the next generation of ministry- Organizing Small Groups - Leading Small Group classes - Creating a mid-week Family Service - Biblical Preaching - Teaching youth and young adults - Growing a youth group - Streaming - Audio mixing - Videography and lighting - Social Media and website management - Local Church Networking - Writing Curriculum for large events, such as Vacation Bible School
