I believe that the role of counsel is to help organizations meet and exceed their goals by anticipating areas of concerns and proactively working to address these issues. Seeking out legal advice should not be viewed as a necessary evil, but rather a key aspect of shaping a highly successful culture. The culture of an organization, particularly ones that are productive and adaptive, is more than simply ‘the way we do things around here.’ I view culture as being the “set of living relationships working towards a shared goal” (D. Coyle). Awareness of these ‘living relationships’ is vital when building on past success or responding to new challenges. To help organizations succeed, my advice has to be focused, accessible and practical. When conflicts arise, I work with organizations to navigate these issues quickly and efficiently while ensuring that our strategy both protects the legal interests of the organization and aligns with their fundamental values and core principles.
