About Xiaoyu Pu 蒲晓宇

I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Reno, and a fellow of the Penn Project on the Future of U.S.–China Relations. I previously held fellowships at the Australian National University, Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Brazil, the Inter-American Dialogue in Washington, D.C, the National Committee on U.S.–China Relations, and the Princeton–Harvard China and the World Program. My research focuses on Chinese foreign policy, global order, and international relations theory. Recognized as one of the most widely cited scholars in the study of China’s foreign policy, I have published in leading journals such as International Security and International Affairs. I also serve on the editorial boards of PS: Political Science & Politics, The Chinese Journal of International Politics (Oxford University Press), and Foreign Affairs Review (Beijing). My first book, Rebranding China: Contested Status Signaling in the Changing Global Order (Stanford University Press, 2019), explores how China navigates its dual identity as both a rising power and a developing country. I am currently completing my second book, Mixed Signals: Strategic Dualities in Chinese Foreign and Security Policy (under contract with Cambridge University Press). ”” PS: Political Science & Politics The Chinese Journal of International Politics,(, 2019
