About Yingna Lu

Yingna Lu is the cofounder and producer of Spaceboy Studio, a Gadigal (Sydney) based production company supported by Screen Australia Enterprise Funding 2023, and is committed to telling attention-grabbing stories in accessible and entertaining ways. She is also an AACTA nominated/SPA award winning producer whose background within screen agencies, music management and advertising has guided her interest in commercially driven and emotionally arresting topics. In 2016, she was the $20k Screen Internship winner as a SPA Ones To Watch Producer and worked as an Unscripted development executive in Vancouver. In 2017, she worked with BAFTA winners Stefan Hunt and Vanessa Marian, as well as powerhouses Helena Rosebery, Olivia Carolan to launch the inaugural sold-out multimedia festival: ‘We’re All Going to Die’ in Sydney, that has since travelled to Melbourne, Byron Bay, Texas, New Zealand. Her films have screened at Berlin, SXSW, Tribeca, BFI, Melbourne International Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival and her digital content have broadcast on Foxtel and ABC1, and featured as a Vimeo Staff Pick, Short of the Week, on Dust and blogged in Huffington Post and SBS Comedy. In 2022, she produced ABCMe's political comedy 'The PM’s Daughter S2' with Fremantle alongside Tim Powell. In 2023, she received the inaugural SNSW Short to Feature: Fast Track grant to produce short film 'Souvenir' and follow up feature 'Keep Walking' with Renée Marie Petropoulos. In 2024, she was spotlighted in the annual IF Magazine 'Rising Talent Producer' list. Yingna has worked across TV/Feature projects including 'New Gold Mountain'(SBS), feature films:'Carmen'(TIFF 2022) & 'Be Still'(Canada). She has executive produced the award winning short films 'Chicken'(BFI 2020),'Happy New Year, Ms Luna'(QueerScreen Pitch Off Winner & 'Audience Choice' Winner 2023), and 'Dancing Girl Balloon Man’ (Sydney Film Festival - ‘Best Short’ & ‘Rising Talent’ Award Winners 2023). She is a Producing lecturer at the national film school, AFTRs and moderated panels for SNSW and Emerge, and run writer's rooms for ACE. The best part of the production process for Yingna is realising you're making something out of nothing with a team that have somehow synchronised with and whom inspire and motivate each other to build this dream. After that, there is no budget that can't be wrangled, no wet weather condition, no prejudice, no genre that will discourage her from driving a worthwhile production home.
