About Yuri Pinheiro

I am a microbiologist and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Technical University of Munich (Helmholtz Zentrum München), specializing in environmental microbiology and genomics. My current work at GEBIKI2 focuses on developing next-generation biodiversity monitoring frameworks that combine nanopore sequencing, AI, and remote sensing. By integrating real-time genomic data with climate and landscape information, I create scalable approaches to track ecosystem health and understand how environmental and human pressures shape microbial communities. I bring solid experience in nanopore and short-read sequencing, qPCR, metabarcoding, and bioinformatics (R, Unix), applied to soils, sediments, water, and host-associated microbiomes. Passionate about bridging molecular tools with big data and ecology, my goal is to make biodiversity monitoring more precise, scalable, and actionable. Check my research:
