Chezacheza Dance Foundation

ChezaCheza is a Kenyan not-for-profit founded in 2018 that uses the power of dance in a therapeutic framework to build strong minds of children living in marginalised communities. Our mission is to create access to safe spaces for children in marginalised communities where dance supports their mental health and well-being. By providing weekly therapeutic dance sessions, children engage in an interactive learning experience where they build essential social and emotional skills, connect with others, express their emotions and build confidence. Experiencing joy, releasing stress and coping with emotions can help children navigate life’s challenges and make responsible decisions. We work exclusively with young Community-Based Dance Coaches (CBDCs) who make a difference in our program, acting as role models with a similar background to the children. They create safe and stress-free spaces in their community, where children learn how dance can be a tool for expressing their feelings, releasing stress and building confidence. At ChezaCheza, children learn more about self-awareness, managing emotions and stress, communication, collaboration, self-esteem and empathy through a structured curriculum that combines Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and mindfulness meditation.
