Whether they be coherent or completely different, like in a giant three-dimensional linking matrix, it is possible to overlap, interact, multiply any kind of given idea to form something stronger, something better or something entirely original. If you see the world like this, you can start cooking new projects. Take a bit of context or leave it out completely, investigate the site during day and night or visit it on Google Maps, talk to the client or listen to the trees. Mix things that don’t seem to fit. Ask a lot of questions and try to understand. Flavour it with a strong story or even a fairy tale. Distil it to the core or make it open for anyone to enter. Don´t be hectic, let it grow. Enjoy the heavy notes and the gentle tones. Avoid any concept. Create individuality.

The Vienna-based office of BWM Architekten (until 2014 BWM Architekten und Partner) was founded by Erich Bernard, Daniela Walten and Johann Moser in 2004. The three office founders and name givers Bernard, Walten, Moser worked together already in 1998 when they met and realized their first projects together. Markus Kaplan has been part of BWM since 2004 and has been a partner in the team since 2014. Currently approx. 30 experts from the fields of architecture, urban planning, interior design, graphic design, fine arts and landscape architecture are working at the office of BWM Architekten. The international team’s main fields of activity include planning and buildings within the urban space, enterprise and shop architecture, cultural projects (concepts for museums and exhibition designs) as well as the examination of buildings in the context of the inner city and the monumental protection of post-war modernist buildings. The projects realized range from large and medium to small: From hotel planning and design to residential buildings, private buildings, loft extensions as well as from cooperative urban planning procedures and fine interior design to precise exhibition designs. Franz & Sue sind eines der erfolgreichsten und innovativsten Architekturbüros Österreichs mit mehr als 90 MitarbeiterInnen aus 18 Nationen. Geschäftsführende Gesellschafter sind Christian Ambos, Michael Anhammer, Robert Diem, Harald Höller und Erwin Stättner. In den vergangenen Jahren haben die ArchitektInnen etwa 40 Wettbewerbe im Bereich Bildungs, Wohn- und Bürobau gewonnen und darüber hinaus Großprojekte wie das Design der Wiener U-Bahn-Linie 5 oder das Chemieforschungszentrum am IST Campus für sich entscheiden können. Seit Ende 2018 arbeiten Franz & Sue im „Stadtelefant“, einem Architekturcluster und Quartiershaus im Wiener Sonnwendviertel, das die ArchitektInnen gemeinsam mit PartnerInnen aus der Branche geplant, finanziert sowie errichtet und Anfang 2019 bezogen haben.
