Cemeti - Institute For Art And Society
Cemeti – Institute for Art and Society (formerly ‘Cemeti Gallery’, then ‘Cemeti Art House’) is Indonesia’s oldest platform for contemporary art, founded in Yogyakarta in 1988 by artists Mella Jaarsma and Nindityo Adipurnomo. Cemeti offers a platform for artists and cultural practitioners to develop, present and practice their work in close collaboration with curators, researchers, activists, writers and performers, as well as local communities across Yogyakarta. The programme takes shape through exhibitions, workshops, talks, assemblies, publications, long-term research threads and a three-month artist-in-residence programme (held twice annually). The subtitle ‘Institute for Art and Society’ was added in 2017 by a new team to express the organisations commitment to socially and politically engaged artistic practices, exploring the possibility for a gallery to act as a site for civic action.

Black Goat Studios
Black Goat Studios was established in 1993 by artist Entang Wiharso as his workspace and now has facilities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and Rhode Island, USA. Early in his career, Wiharso realized that his studio practice could accommodate a wider range of activities and participants and developed it into an office, educational facility, library, laboratory and place for collaboration. The name Black Goat Studios was adopted in 2009 to reflect developments in the artist's multi-disciplinary creative practice, career and community projects. In Wiharso and his wife Christine Cocca founded Antena Projects (AP), a project-based arts organization under the umbrella of Black Goat Studios. Located within Black Goat Studios’ facilities in Indonesia, AP offers national and international residencies for artists, curators, conservators and writers, organizes arts events and offers workshops for kindergarten, elementary and college students. Antena Projects' activities are intended to contribute to heterogeneous art practices and provide opportunities for a diverse community of artists Entang Wiharso (b. 1967, Tegal, Java) studied painting, graduating from the Indonesian Institute of Arts in Yogyakarta. Wiharso has a multi-disciplinary practice and is known for his dramatic visual language and unique images of contemporary life. From universal issues of power, loss and love to broader categories of ideology, philosophy and identity, Wiharso’s work is layered with social, political and sexual critique, revealing a complex picture of the human condition. Wiharso is a recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Pollock-Krasner grant, a Copeland Fellowship at Amherst College, and residencies at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center, NY as well as at STPI, Singapore. He has had solo exhibitions in Asia, Europe and the US at Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Singapore (2015); Bernier/Eliades, Athens, Greece (2015); Marc Straus, New York, NY (2015); ARNDT, Berlin and Singapore (2014 & 2012); and Galeri Nasional Indonesia, Jakarta (2010 & 2001). Wiharso has also been included in such major group shows as Odyssey: Navigating Nameless Seas (2016) at Singapore Art Museum, Singapore; Love: The First of the 7 Virtues (2015) at Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Peekskill, New York; Open Sea (2015) at Musée d’art contemporain, Lyon, France; Prospect.3: Notes for Now (2014-15) in New Orleans, LA; 55th Venice Biennale (2013) and 51st Venice Biennales (2005); All You Need Is Love (2013) at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan; and Prague Biennale 6 (2013), among others. Entang Wiharso lives and works in Rhode Island, United States and Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Ole Ukena Studio
Ole Ukena is a German multidisciplinary artist that lives and works in Berlin, Bali, and Brazil. Ukena interweaves a variety of media including sculpture, installation, watercolor, drawing, text, photography & video, and has in recent years focused on working with textiles. Ukena is known to merge traditional embroidery processes in combination with high-tech reflective and uncommon materials. Ukena refers to his textile work simply as “paintings”. His recent work is typically situated in a place between abstraction and figuration and his intuitive lines create dream-like associations that open the narrative for the viewer to complete. Since 2020 his body of work has extended to architecture, murals, as well as wearable pieces, taking the work out from the gallery and studio context into the streets. Since 1996, Gajah Gallery has been a pioneering body in the Southeast Asian arts scene, representing a portfolio of the region’s leading artists as well as engaging the brightest emerging talents in contemporary art today. From humble beginnings in Singapore at Monk’s Hill, the Gallery has since expanded to a huge, beautifully-designed industrial warehouse space in Tanjong Pagar, and opened a second exhibition house in the thriving arts city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Both exhibition spaces are fuelled with a unique atmosphere, that invites an interplay of contemporary aesthetics and critical discourse. Gajah Gallery remains dedicated to promoting artists from the region and highlighting their international relevance. Over the years the gallery has built a legacy of initiatives such as re-invigorating academic contributions to the category of Indonesian art and history, creating landmark shows such as Lokanat: Ground Zero which travelled to Yangon, Intersections: Latin American and Southeast Asian Contemporary Art which travelled to Havana, Cuba and the founding of art institute Yogya Art Lab (YAL). Through significant collaborations with Singapore Art Museum (SAM), National University of Singapore Museum, and hosting at least five spectacular exhibitions each year, Gajah Gallery cements its commitment to supporting leading artists and nurturing emerging international talent, ensuring our content is as compelling as our curatorial concepts. YOGYA ART LAB The Yogya Art Lab (YAL) is Gajah Gallery’s major initiative based in Yogyakarta, a major arts hub in Indonesia. YAL is an experimental platform for prominent and emerging artists to come together to produce works across various mediums such as paper, sculpture, performance and digital visual production. The lab has collaborated with outstanding artists like Yunizar and Ashley Bickerton to produce some of their finest bronze and aluminium sculpture pieces respectively.
