Skubalisto
Fine artist and muralist (street artist) based in Cape Town and associate artist at South Africa's Everard Read Gallery. I am not a writer; art and painting are my `weapon’ of choice. For me, the makings of a true artist lie in the fact that an individual can create and express, no matter what medium they use. I am particularly interested in bringing awareness to my community. My work addresses pertinent issues around social justice, identity, and belonging. I’m passionate and vocal about young people on the African continent and their futures. Over the last ten years, I’ve built an acumen and practice that is distinctive. My preferred mediums for creating my work range from spray paint, acrylic, oil pastel, charcoal to ink. I primarily create portraits in a contemporary expressionist style, both as murals and canvas paintings. I view my work as a collection of ideas and stories that serve as visual diaries for the state of the world at the time of their creation.
