Nak'azdli Whut'en is a holistic community that believes in maintaining and enhancing traditional values by learning, living, and teaching our culture and heritage. Dakelh or Carrier are indigenous people from the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. Most Carrier call themselves Dakelh, meaning “People Who go Around by Boat“. For information, visit the Dakelh culture page. Nak’azdli Whut’en is a non-treaty First Nation located adjacent to Fort St. James, BC. It has eighteen reserves in total in and around Fort St. James. Most people live on Indian Reserve (IR)#1 which is separated from Fort St. James by Kwah Road. There are also a few families on IR #1A up the North Road at Four-Mile and William’s Prairie Meadow. The current population of Nak’azdli is close to members though only about 700 live “on-reserve.” Most of those living “off-reserve” live in Fort St. James or Prince George. There is also a significant population in Vancouver but Band Members are scattered throughout BC and beyond.

St. Mary’s Home has continuously and responsively served pregnant youth in Ottawa since 1933. Specialized residential and community support services are provided to marginalized young pregnant women (ages 12-25), young parents and their children. The approach is holistic, grounded in a strong commitment to strengthen and build upon the personal resilience of each individual. St. Mary’s Home is a not-for-profit charitable organization serving the Ottawa area and beyond. As the only Residential / Shelter program in Eastern Ontario for this population of interest, the Home accommodates 15 homeless young women and up to 15 newborn infants at a time. The Residence assists approximately 70 young mothers and their infants annually. Residential support continues from pregnancy until the infant is up to 8 months of age.

The shelter is located in Belleville, Ontario and offers 16 beds and is staffed 24/7. Other services include a 24/7 emergency crisis line, safety planning and supportive counselling. Three Oaks offers outreach services including, Outreach Counselling, Transitional Housing Support Family Court Support and a Children's Outreach program. The Children’s Outreach Program provides 1:1 and group counselling to children who have witnessed abuse. The Training and Public Education Program provides presentations and public education on domestic violence and related topics to the community including schools, groups and organizations.

ABOUT THE LANGLEY HOSPICE SOCIETY Langley Hospice Society is a community-based not-for-profit organization that is committed to providing emotional, practical and social support for people who are living with terminal illness, and their family and friends, throughout the last stages of illness, at the time of death, and bereavement. In addition to palliative care and support through the Doug and Fran MacDonald Langley Hospice Residence and in the community, the Langley Hospice Society provides anticipatory, early and ongoing, individual and group grief support programs for children, teens, adults and families; education; advocacy; community outreach; specialized volunteer training, art, recreation and play-based support programs for grieving children and teens, outreach in local schools, and social and recreation focused peer-support programs for grieving adults, including Supportive Steps—a walking group for bereaved adults, Grief Yoga, a resource library and much more. For almost forty years, the Langley Hospice Society has been committed to providing quality palliative and bereavement care and support to our growing community, and with diverse but limited funding sources, we fundraise annually to be able to continue to offer this type of quality programming and to ensure these offerings remain free of charge for the children, teens, adults and families we serve. Since its incorporation in 1983, the Langley Hospice Society has had a goal of a permanent, free-standing hospice residence to ensure access to quality palliative care and support for our community. In May of 2022, with the incredible support of our community, the Langley Hospice Society completed construction and began operations of the Doug and Fran MacDonald Langley Hospice Residence, in partnership with Fraser Health.
