At the Mobile Food Market we believe everyone deserves access to fresh fruits and vegetables. People experience different degrees of difficulties with accessing healthy food. We know individuals with mobility issues, seniors living alone, low income families, and single parents are at higher risk of not getting the food they need every day. To us, access means that people have enough money to buy food, people have transportation options to get to a food source, and that people can buy familiar fruits and vegetables they enjoy and know how to cook with. We want to be part of creating healthy, more just and sustainable food systems in Nova Scotia. We know this involves many different players, so we have worked to develop partnerships with growers, non profits, businesses, governments and communities. While our primary focus is to make it easier for people to buy healthy fruits and vegetables, we also know the importance of community action. We work alongside community groups, organizations and leaders to address food issues in their community.

Clarico Place of York Region (Clarico Place) is a home-away-from-home for adults living with developmental disabilities, where they can learn and practice everyday skills, socialize, make friends, and thrive from new experiences through inclusive activities in the community. Participants are integrated into the community through partnerships with the organizations like York Regional Police, Renior Retirement Residence, and the YMCA Employment and Community Programs. Each partnership provides on-site and off-site programming that provides the building of deeper life skills such as pedestrian and online safety, job preparation, and more. Our programming promotes choice, voice and control so individuals with developmental disabilities can shine in our community. Clarico Place of York Region (Clarico Place) is uniquely positioned as a non-government charitable organization with the flexibility to respond to the unique needs of our participants with developmental disabilities, as well as supporting families and caregivers, with individualized attention. Established in 1996 as Vaughan in Action Community Program Inc, we changed our name in 2017 to Clarico Place of York Region – clarico meaning shine in Latin – to better reflect the multifaceted programming and geographic reach across York Region that we have built over our history. “Our name change was a year-in-the-making as the first step in implementing our new strategic direction,” explains Megan Thomas, Executive Director. “Rebranding this amazing organization is our opportunity to further promote inclusion and ability, and the building of better lives for individuals with developmental disabilities in York Region and beyond.” Our mission remains the same – deliver quality programming to participants through inclusive activities that lead to personal growth and independence. Got Your Back is a grassroots, ally-driven movement. GYB offers day program support for persons with developmental disabilities, Autism and/or a dual diagnosis who are older than 18 (no access to high school) and transitioning to adulthood. Our programs focus on life, social and job skill training. Members work toward developing independent or semi-independent living skills. GYB offers a secure and encouraging atmosphere where members may interact socially, learn about and find space in their community as well as practice their reading and job skills. GYB is a great asset to any community as it fills a gap left by the significant lack of support, resources and activities for people with different abilities who have graduated from high school and are adjusting to adult and communal life to continue to thrive.
