Syed Ahmed College
Alhaj Syed Ahmed was a member of the then Pakistani Provincial Porishod. He was very learned, simple and popular among the people. The people of this area were not much literate. They were also needy. Mr. Syed Ahmed realized that it was education which could bring development and progress in this area. Foreseeing it, he took an effort of establishing a college to spread the light of education. But due to political restlessness of the then time and the imposing of the military ruling in 1958 his effort did not see the light of success. Again he tried but the final call of Allah took him in the other world. But his humanitarian dream did not nip in the bud. His wife Ayesha Khatun, his eldest son Alhaj Md. Nazbul Haque, Md. Shohidul Haque, late Sohidul Alom (Jobblu), Md. Fazlar Rahman (Chan) and the people of the villege established a college named "Syed Ahmed College" for intermediate course on 4 January 1970. Dr M. A. Malik, the then minister of labour, health, social welfare and Family planning, inaugurated the college on 6 February 1971. In 1976 the college was advanced as Degree Bachelor (Pass) and in 1998 the college opened Honours Courses with Management, Bangali. Afterwards Political Science, Islamic History & Culture, Social Work, Geography & environment, Zoology, Mathematics, Marketing, Accounting were opened. Honours Course on other subjects & Masters Course on a few subjects are on the process. Taking the help of urbanization and for having skilled teacher staff the college has become one of the reputed colleges in the northern part of the Bangladesh. At present it is the largest non government educational institution in the North Bengal.
