East Coast Viners Grain
Drumlithie based East Coast Viners Animal Nutrition is one of Scotland’s largest family-owned animal feed compounding businesses, producing a wide range of feeds for all types of cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry and game. ECV also supply straight feeds and minerals for the on-farm mixer. History East Coast Viners Grain, a partnership was founded in 1977 by the Forbes Family with a grain drier, dressing plant and tonnes of flat storage space. The business has grown over the years to the point where it is now one of the key players in the Scottish animal feed industry. In 1992, the decision was taken to invest in feed compounding to extend the range of services offered to farmers. It was decided at the outset to build a plant large enough to handle a substantial commercial tonnage to make use of locally-grown cereals. A further investment in 1995 increased the capacity of the plant from tonnes to tonnes. In 2001, ECVG were awarded full accreditation of the all important UKASTA Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS). This national scheme has been developed to help restore consumer confidence in British produced livestock products. The UFAS code of practice is based on the principles of safe manufacturing, full traceability and independent monitoring underpinned by Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). It defines a set of principles for the production of safe animal feedingstuffs and covers the sourcing and analysis of all feed ingredients.

The East of England Agricultural Society has a rich history dating back to 1797. The core goals of the Society are much the same now as they were at its inception, with the focus centred around promoting agriculture and rural life in the East of England. The Society, is a registered charity, and we are currently based at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. We also operate an events programme through the year from evening talks to conferences, dinners and our successful Kids Country educational outreach programme on all aspects of the field to fork journey. At the heart of the organisation is a membership base which is open to all and which helps support the Society’s charitable objectives alongside the wider agricultural industry and rural way of life. In return, members are entitled to a number of benefits such as discounted event entry, volunteer opportunities and bursary applications. We are the original innovators of EnviroBed which is a comfortable, super absorbent livestock bedding made from waste paper crumb which received a Queens Award for Innovation back in 2006. EnviroBed is available from our site Foggs Farm in Lancashire where it is dried using renewable heat and it is also available from our satellite drying site in Gloucestershire. We also produce bacterial inoculants including SlurryBugs, Crust Buster and Shift IT which help farmers to retain slurry nutrients in organic forms so that when spread to land it is uptaken easier into the soil, it also breaks down crusts and helps to reduce smells/gasses from slurry. We have been involved in silage inoculants for many years through our sister company Greenlands, and over the past few years we have been manufacturing our range of OptiSile silage inoculants in-house. They are organically approved and improve the quality of clamped and bailed silage - keeping it cool and stable with no waste all winter.
