The Estonian Academy Of Security Sciences

The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences is a state institution, providing professional education for civil servants belonging in the area of government under the Estonian Ministry of the Interior. The Academy was established in 1992 after Estonia regained its independence. The objective of the EASS is, through internal security related academic education, research and development activities, and also through the training of honest and competent public servants, to create a secure state and conditions for stable development across the state of Estonia and therewith contribute to the security of the entire European Union. The Academy prepares civil servants in four Colleges under the following specialities: • police and border guard • rescue • correction • taxation and customs. Studies are implemented on the levels of vocational training, professional higher education and Master’s studies as in both forms of daily- and distance studies. The Estonian Academy of the Security Sciences has created excellent opportunities for successful academic work, conducting applied research, professional self-development and cooperation with organizations for its lecturers and students in Estonia and in foreign countries. EASS publishes research papers and other internal security and public service-related educational resources. Academy offers training courses to civil servants organized by the Centre for Continuing Education.

Eesti Infotehnoloogia Kolledž on aastal loodud mittetulunduslik rakenduslik erakõrgkool, mida haldab Hariduse Infotehnoloogia Sihtasutus. IT Kolledžis on võimalik omandada rakenduslik kõrgharidus õppekavadel IT süsteemide administreerimine, IT süsteemide arendus ja Infosüsteemide analüüs. The Estonian Information Technology College is the leading IT institution of applied higher education in Estonia. What makes the IT College special is its academic staff, composed of nothing but professionals in the field – a third of all of the lecturers come from IT firms and company or state IT departments. The IT College offers different forms of study including day-time and evening courses, and distance learning (e-studies). A three-year study of applied higher education totalling 180 credit points in the European Credit Transfer System produces a specific vocational qualification equal to a Bachelor’s degree. The qualification awarded upon completion of the programme is Diploma of Professional Higher Education. The College’s priority is to train IT field specialists; yet, graduates may choose to pursue their studies at the Master’s level at home universities or abroad.

EDUCATION - Specialization in geoinformatics and cartography is suitable for students interested in understanding and application of geospatial analysis and spatial thinking. We teach spatial databases, spatial data infrastructures, cartography, remote sensing, geospatial modelling and spatial machine learning. Graduates will find employment in IT and mapping companies, land surveying offices, governmental institutions, local governments or private companies looking for GIS specialists, cartographers and spatial data analysts/scientists. Since there is a growing demand for people with an advanced skillset in geoinformatics in many disciplines, the chair is also tasked with developing spatial skills of human and physical geographers and students from “non-spatial” disciplines. RESEARCH - Our research aims to analyze and develop different geospatial data, and their applications in natural and human environments. Through research projects, the chair is directly involved in developing solutions for a wide range of problems that require geospatial analysis.
