Refuge For Women Pittsburgh
Refuge for Women is expanding its evidenced-based, trauma-informed program to Pittsburgh, first by opening an Emergency Home for survivors referred by law enforcement, healthcare and service providers, and self-identified. Complementing the work of local leading nonprofits who serve individuals experiencing crisis, homelessness, and mental health issues, our Emergency Housing will offer Care and Comfort, Treatment and Stabilization and Outreach and Education. The mission of Refuge for Women, a national, faith-based nonprofit with 10 sites in 5 states that has supported 400+ survivors, is to empower sexually exploited women to live a life of freedom through residential healing programs. In 2009, we began to pioneer a unique multisite continuum of care model, helping women move from dangerous situations into free and safe housing, with trauma informed healing and life skills programming supported by licensed professionals and 24/7 staffing.

Sos Housing
My career as a real estate attorney led me to co-found a nonprofit organization in 2010, opening, managing and operating shared housing models, including sober living homes and senior & student housing, which allowed me to help mentor other group home owners in their business. I dedicated 15 years to housing more than people, most coming home from the justice system. It is time to transition into my passion of teaching others and providing consultation, coaching and speaking services for all shared housing businesses. My extensive knowledge and experience with Group Homes is available for those who want to make a social impact in their communities by providing affordable housing and existing real estate investors wanting to increase and double their rental income. With the nationwide shortage of affordable housing and rising housing costs, shared living is poised to become a moving force in the real estate market. I am available for consultations, coaching, and speaking at events on cohousing, coliving, and shared housing real estate. I teach the ins and outs of running businesses such as sober living homes, transitional housing, student housing, senior housing, reentry housing, and much more. Housing is Not a Privilege by a Human Right!

No longer Victims, they are Survivors – Thrivers – Conquerors! Lives are transformed at The Bernie House. Our clients: bloom – gain self-respect again – earn their GED’s – become gainfully employed – and earn college scholarships. The quiet, insecure child: learns to laugh again – becomes happy and healthy and learns that a relationship does not have to hurt. The family is up lifted with support from several agencies and organizations that provide counseling, job training and placement assistance, adult education, child advocacy and day care. The adult is required to make monthly payments on utilities and a minimal program fee. All program fees collected are returned upon successful completion of the program. In addition, the family is invited to take the furnishings and items in the home. This provides a solid foundation as they move on to a more permanent house.

The Union Mission
The Union Mission was founded in 1987 by a single individual who, in conjunction with the Latrobe Ministerial Association, saw the need for a short-term residential facility for disadvantaged men. The Mission would be a place where housing and support could be offered for those experiencing economic and/or personal crises in their life. Men did not just "stay" at the Mission. They were oriented into the community with a broader purpose and given opportunities for ongoing counseling, fellowship, group activities and much more. It remains a place where both our guests and our neighbors see past the erroneous stigmas attached to homelessness and invite one another to a more accurate understanding of the dignity of the human person. Recognizing the changing landscape around housing insecurity and the barriers our clients were facing, the Union Mission has evolved into providing a variety of interventions and support mechanisms toward ensuring that homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring in Westmoreland County.
