Midwest Old Threshers

Celebrating 75 Years of Midwest Old Threshers The Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Association (MOSTA) was founded in 1950, marking the beginning of a cherished tradition rooted in agricultural heritage and community spirit. The idea to create a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of threshing originated in September 1949. Clark Everts, W.E.(Ted) Detrick, Ray H. Ernst, and Herman E. Elgar, inspired by their visit to the Zehr Threshing Reunion in Pontiac, Illinois, envisioned a similar event in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. With an abundance of steam engines and separators in Henry County, the potential for a local reunion was undeniable. Through a series of winter meetings, the election of a Board of Directors, and dedicated planning, the Midwest Old Threshers Association was officially chartered on August 21, 1950. Less than a month later, on September 20–21, 1950, the first Old Threshers Reunion came to life. The inaugural event featured 15 steam engines, 8 separators, and drew an impressive crowd of approximately attendees. Over the years, the Reunion has grown into a nationally recognized celebration of agricultural history and vintage machinery. Today, the event attracts over hard ticket sales annually, showcasing over exhibits and attractions, from steam engines and gas-powered tractors to live demonstrations and historical reenactments. Midwest Old Threshers continues to honor its founders’ vision by bringing people together to experience the rich heritage of rural America. As we celebrate 75 years of this beloved tradition, we invite you to join us in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where history comes to life and community thrives.

Palmetto Paleontology Museum

The Palmetto Paleontology Museum PPM is a component of the Palmetto Paleontological Foundation – currently pending 501-C3 Status approval. The PPM will serve as a Natural History Museum and research facility in Dorchester County, South Carolina. Dorchester County is one of the most unique locations on the planet for studying the evolution of whales and dolphins. From the Eocene formations of Harleyville, South Carolina to the best preserved marine beds in the world for the Pliocene – Pleistocene boundary and the widespread deposits of Oligocene formations. You can literally watch as the explosion of whales and dolphins takes place in the marine rocks beneath the surface. Our goal is to create a space in which the specimens of the area can remain here and to provide a space in which academic research can take place right here at the heart of Oligocene marine-vertebrate studies.

Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum

Our mission is to preserve and share the Tuskegee Airmen story while training youth in aerospace sciences including pilot certification through our certified ground school. Founded in Detroit in 1987, by original Airmen including former, Detroit Mayor Coleman A Young, we have the largest collection of Airmen artifacts including P-51 Mustang and trainer planes in 3 locations. Our STEM youth programs teach drone and airplane piloting, rocketry and airplane mechanics familiarization.

Utah Black History Museum is committed to promote the understanding, appreciation, and advancement of the Black experience in Utah through programming, exhibits, and activities that teach local and national Black history and celebrate the culture of the African Diaspora in the United States. Utah Black History Museum’s gigantic museum on wheels features informative and inspiring traveling exhibits highlighting both local and national Black history. It is time for Utah’s students, citizens, and visitors to learn Black history — real Black history. With our state’s population growing in diversity, Utahns are in need of more equitable representation amongst their organizations, especially in the form of educational institutions. While the state continues to celebrate its pioneer heritage with enthusiasm, these celebrations do not fully represent all members of both our historical and modern community. The Utah Black History Museum is here to offer a non-discriminatory and more complete history of our citizens. We are here to represent the underrepresented in our school curriculums and community organizations who have been overlooked for centuries. We tell the stories of Black frontiersmen, writers, musicians, leaders, and many more whose history has, until now, been rarely heard. During the pandemic, with limitations on social activities, our natural-gas-powered museum also offers a completely innovative and accessible outdoor or indoor learning experience. With children’s limited field trip options, the UBHM bus has the unique ability to bring field trips to the students! The beautifully painted bus, provides individuals of all ages a museum experience they will never forget.
