Locally owned and owner-managed, Music and Play (M&P) offers classes for all ages – and in all areas of the performing arts including: Group and Private Music Lessons and Musical Theatre and Theatre. With a pandemic-inspired move in the Summer of 2020, the School now occupies over square feet in our west Calgary studios located at the junction of Sarcee and Hwy 16. With 17 studio spaces and our own ArtsLab Studio Theatre space for performing, every day at M&P is filled with the joy of arts education for students from 6 months to 99 years of age. At M&P it’s not simply about getting numbers through the door – the company has been built on a strong foundation of excellence and education first. This foundation is supported by company owners and a faculty who themselves have extensive backgrounds in education and the performing arts. Our stringent strandards actually pose one of the greatest challenges for the Company, as not every teacher is right for M&P – as much as we might need them to meet our ever growing student requests. As artists ourselves, we know the joys and struggles in pursuing your dreams – and this is why we make sure that our students (as people – not as billable class hours) come first. This means providing a nurturing, high quality learning environment where they may all achieve. At M&P we want our students to go beyond the notes, the words and the steps and into the world of creativity and the arts! We want to ensure that whenever our students decide to discontinue their arts education, that they take with them a foundation of knowledge that will continue to serve them for their lifetime. Musicfest Canada
MusicFest Canada is a competition festival, established as the Canadian Stage Band Festival (CSBF) in Toronto, in 1972, by Robert Richmond (founding president), Gary Wadsworth, and Paul Miner. The CSBF added vocal and concert band components in 1981 and 1986, respectively. MusicFest Canada, introduced as of 1987, embraced[clarification needed] the CSBF and what had come to be identified by 1986 as the Canadian Vocal Festival and Canadian Concert Band Festival. Bands and choirs are adjudicated by noted Canadian and US professionals in the jazz, concert band, orchestra and choral fields. Classifications are either by age (Jazz and Choral) or by an established level set by test piece (Concert Bands and Orchestras). Winning ensembles are ranked according to gold, silver, and bronze; awards and scholarships are also presented to individual musicians. MusicFest Canada currently hosts six Honour Ensembles of outstanding students who rehearse the week of the Festival and perform a feature concert at the end of the week. They are The Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra, The Conn-Selmer CenterStage Jazz Band, The Ellison Tours Honour Choir, The Thomastik-Infeld Canadian String Orchestra, The National Youth Jazz Combo, and The Woodshed Percussion Ensemble.

Musique Nomade
Musique Nomade (MN) is a non-profit organization that produces and promotes Indigenous artists and their traditional and contemporary music. MN supports up-and-coming musicians, advocates a fair Indigenous cultural representation within the music industry, and contributes to the survival of Indigenous languages and traditional music through digital media. MN’s team travels across the land, often in remote areas, to work with Indigenous singer-songwriters and musicians. Our creation workshops involve free music and video recording sessions and offer a professional guidance to artists who wish to develop their own projects. MN is a steppingstone to the music industry, and several artists have launched their career though a collaboration with our organization. MN also produces and collaborates to concerts and events featuring artists from its network and supports Indigenous cultural representation. MN produces every year several artistic collaborations that are presented on-stage during the NIKAMOTAN MTL concert. MN's flagship event NIKAMOTAN MTL is held every summer during the Montreal First Peoples’ Festival. This annual concert showcases traditional and indie Indigenous rising stars. It features a unique encounter of several musical genres and gathers artists from diverse musical and cultural backgrounds. NIKAMOWIN is a music streaming platform developed by MN to bring together Indigenous artists’ music and profiles. This unique web platform seeks to show the creativity of Indigenous music and cultures, to enhance their discovery, and to facilitate the public’s access to a great musical diversity. Artists can promote their projects on NIKAMOWIN, a web platform open to every musical genre and Indigenous artists from across the land.
