Edmonton Musical Theatre
Founded in 1977 by Dr. Dasha Goody, Edmonton Musical Theatre (EMT) is a performance-training organization unique to Western Canada. EMT is an independent, non-profit society without affiliation to any educational institution or with any amateur theatre. How It All Started: Dr. Goody began her own music career as a vocalist at the age of fourteen. In 1952, along with young pianist Tommy Banks, she started Orion Theatre and discovered a deep commitment to the musical training of young people. In 1977, Dr. Goody's desire to work with young talent resulted in the founding of Edmonton Musical Theatre, to which she devoted her time, talents, and passion for musical theatre until her death on June 7, 2001. During her lifetime, Dr. Goody was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades in honour and recognition of her dedication to musical theatre instruction, including the Woman of Distinction Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Training of Young People in 1991, an Honourary Doctor of Letters from the University of Alberta in 1994, and an induction into the Edmonton Cultural Hall of Fame in 1996.

Eyagi Productions was conceived in 2019 when our Founder and Artistic Producer, YooRa Kang, had an idea to produce a musical cabaret."Dreams: a Cabaret" was born, and after an overwhelmingly positive response and sold out show, Eyagi Productions went on to produce a second cabaret as well as a concert version of Heathers: the Musical. The company was set to produce the World Premier of a bilingual production of Next to Normal as well as a very special production of The Last Five Years in 2020. but we all know what happened in 2020! During the hiatus, YooRa was working away on completing her program at Vancouver Film School. Here, she was introduced to a whole new medium of storytelling. While theatres shut down, and we were all hungry for live theatre, she was inspired to continue her passion for storytelling in mediums that were safe to explore. Now, she wishes to navigate both mediums of storytelling to bring rich, engaging, and diverse stories to Vancouver and beyond.

People in the theatre industry always seem so shocked when they hear that people are intimidated by theatre, but the truth is, they really are. So, we try to let people know what to expect from a show, to help minimize the intimidation so many feel when it comes to theatre. We want to remind people that they don’t have to have theatre training, or be ‘culturally rich’ or anything like that to enjoy theatre, they just have to go. So, what is Mooney on Theatre? Mooney on Theatre is a website about theatre (primarily in Toronto), founded by Megan Mooney (which you likely already figured out). Mooney on Theatre includes contributions from writers with a variety of levels of experience with theatre writing about specific productions as well as thoughts on theatre in general. In my dream world, theatre becomes an art form of the masses again. These days, all too often, theatre is seen as an elite art form, something fancy.
