Lcrc By Uhasselt - Jessa - Zol
LCRC is a unique structural collaboration between Hasselt University and the regional hospitals Jessa Hospital, and Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg (ZOL) focused on patient-oriented clinical research and healthcare innovation. We take an integrated approach to healthcare: from prevention, promotion of good health, and basic care, to clinical diagnostics, telemonitoring and treatment. LCRC is part of Health Campus DC, an initiative of UHasselt, and the province of Limburg (POM) to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and the implementation of scientific knowledge in practice.(https://healthcampus.be/) Based on the unique strengths of our partners we have the ambition to become one of the leading centres for clinical research and healthcare innovation in Europe. We invest in patient-oriented clinical research and innovation programs led by clinical principal investigators (PIs) in a multi-stakeholder approach. We create an optimal environment for clinical research and develop platforms and services such as biobanking, clinical trial unit and mobile health technology to facilitate these research programs. We aim to translate and valorise our research findings to the benefit of the society. The PIs of LCRC combine high-level scientific research with the academic education of young researchers. We offer a flexible, integrated education and training program that suits the individual ambitions of our students: master programs in Biomedical Sciences, or Physician-clinical investigator (Msc/MD) and a contiguous PhD (doctoral) training program.

Molecular Genetics
My main research interest is on the molecular genetics and cellular pathogenic mechanisms of motor and sensorimotor neuropathies. I identified the hot-spot residue in the small heat-shock protein 22 causing distal motor neuropathy (distal HMN). Interestingly, we found mutations in the HSP22 molecular partner, another small heat shock protein encoded by HSP27 - to be associated with distal HMN and CMT2F. These mutations target amino acids critical for the structural and functional integrity of this protein superfamily. I truly became fascinated to understand the biology behind ubiquitous expressed proteins resulting in a specific peripheral phenotype. My current project focuses on the elucidation of the mechanisms of mutated HSP22/HSP27-induced neuronal and axonal dysfunction and thus I am shifting my attention from genetics to cell and neurobiology. I aim to decipher why mutations in HSP22/HSP27 result in specific peripheral neuropathy and my hypothesis is that distal HMN might be as a result of cell death of motor neurons due to perikaryal atrophy, aggregation and axonal loss. Another mechanism might be alteration in axonal transport due to dysfunction of the cytoskeleton, impairment of energy production along the axon or synaptic dysfunction. Therefore, I will focus my research on the pleiotropic actions of stress proteins including chaperone-like activity, apoptotic pathways and cytoskeletal network.

Plht Derivatives
The PLHT Derivatives Project is an advanced research and development initiative in applied mathematics now increasingly relevant to individuals and businesses seeking alternative ways to grow their capital. Its core mission is to provide a low-risk, accessible solution for enhancing small savings or reserve funds, outside the influence of traditional banking, the real economy or stock market volatility. Unlike conventional investment strategies that are heavily influenced by unpredictable economic events or market news, the PLHT approach relies on mathematical modeling of short-term price movements in highly liquid derivative markets such as EURUSD, GBPUSD, EURGBP, AUDUSD, and the S&P 500. Drawing from the principles of Random, Brownian, and Stochastic motion, the project uses kinetic models to detect high-probability, short-term directional price moves, allowing for precise and controlled capital engagement. The strategy is designed to function independently of economic cycles and financial institutions. By decoupling from classical investment solutions, the PLHT project enables any motivated individual or organization to participate in the disciplined growth of their portfolio without requiring prior expertise in finance.

Research Group Electrochemical And Surface Engineering
Welcome to the Linkedin page of the research group ‘Electrochemical and Surface Engineering’ at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. Our team of professors, postdoctoral researchers, Ph.D. students, engineers, economists, supported by a professional technical and administrative staff wants to contribute to the societal and technological challenges of the 21st century. With a strong emphasis on durability and sustainability our focus is on the development of the next generation of high performing and multifunctional metal surfaces and their applications. Why? Because some of the key mineral resources in our economy will be exhausted in the next few years if exploited at the present rates. Because corrosion of metals is yearly costing approximately 1 to 5 percent of a nation’s GNP, based on direct costs only. Because renewable energy sources call revolutionary energy storage systems. How? By our teaching, educating the engineers of tomorrow. By our research, learning how to modify, analyze and model bulk metal surfaces (on the nanometer scale), nanoparticles and -wires in interaction with their environment. By our services to third parties, sharing our knowledge with industrial partners and societal organizations.

Suzon
Suzon AI is a research center in linguistic artificial intelligence, rooted in the scientific legacy of Jacques Blois, a Belgian pioneer of computational linguistics and an early precursor of semantic interoperability. At ULB’s ISTI, inspired in part by the first experiments at Georgetown University, he created the morphological core of DICAUTOM, which later became the foundation of EURODICAUTOM at the European Commission — a landmark system ensuring multilingual consistency across technical and legal domains. Suzon AI continues this vision by building the embryo of semantic interoperability for the age of artificial intelligence: a framework where queries, data, and knowledge are not only exchanged, but understood in their meaning and context. Our ambition is to become the semantic backbone of trustworthy AI, aligned with the AI Act and future ISO/CEN standards.
