Institute For Advanced Study In The Humanities Kwi Essen
The Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) Essen, Germany, is an interdisciplinary research centre following the tradition of international Institutes for Advanced Study. In its role as an inter-university institution connecting the Ruhr-University Bochum, the Technological University Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen, the institute works together with researchers and scientists from its neighbouring universities as well as other partners from the federal state NRW and places in- and outside of Germany. Within the Ruhr area, the KWI is a place to share and discuss the questions and results of ambitious research with interested parties from the city and the greater region. The KWI has continuously re-adjusted its topics according to the agendas of its fellows and leaders. Literary scientist Julika Griem took her office as the new director in April 2018. By this change, the KWI’s research was re-organized into four new fields. The role of language, symbols, images and media for the self-definition and organization of science is to be examined under the heading Cultural Science Studies. In the field Cultural and Literary Sociology we are asking how methods and theories of the philologies and the social sciences can be realigned and freshly combined. The section Science Communication focuses on the analysis of recent problems regarding the challenge of populist attacks against science. The Teaching Lab is to be used to develop new events and formats that can be exported as prototypes of research-oriented teaching. Beyond all that, a number of diverse research areas have been established at the KWI over the last years. They are being integrated into the new institute conception to continue their work under Julika Griem’s guidance. Part of these are, for instance, the projects found under the keyword Communication Culture as well as other ones from the category “Individual Projects”.

Institute For Market-Based Management
Market-based management does not begin with production and does not end with the market; rather, market orientation is a management philosophy that emanates from the stakeholders of a company and their needs in order to offer real solutions to problems. Market-based management means thinking in terms of competitive and customer advantages, whereby the central point is consistent orientation towards stakeholder benefit. The implementation of this philosophy can only succeed if all corporate divisions (and thus also all employees) think and act in a market-based manner. The IMM (Institute for Market-based Management) aims to use its contributions in research, teaching and consulting to deepen this understanding, provide a basis for decision-making and recommend suitable measures.

Institute Of Jet Propulsion And Turbomachinery Ist - Rwth Aachen University
The Institute for Jet Propulsion and Turbomachinery is active in numerous research areas. In addition to classical turbomachinery, innovative energy conversion systems such as low-sound, hybrid-electric aircraft propulsion systems are researched and developed. Modern, electrified aviation propulsion systems and innovative energy carriers such as hydrogen and synthetic fuels will enable emission-free aviation in the future. To this end, the IST is researching innovative energy conversion systems for aircraft of various size classes. In order to achieve broad acceptance for urban and regional air mobility among the population, freedom from noise as well as from emissions must be ensured. The IST is therefore developing, designing and testing quiet propulsors for these air cabs. As MTU Aero Engines' center of competence for compressors, the IST is conducting research work on an axial-flow compressor for modern aircraft engines. This offers the opportunity to investigate current research topics on an application-oriented test vehicle. In the field of centrifugal compressors, the IST is conducting research on industrial and engine applications. In addition, a test stand for a fuel cell centrifugal compressor is being built. The IST has a great deal of experience in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of flow measurement equipment. In addition, static calibrations for pressure and temperature as well as dynamic calibrations in the free-jet calibration channel are carried out at the institute. Complex flow phenomena are investigated by means of numerical simulations. The IST contributes to the development of innovative CFD methods by developing numerical concepts and validating these methods. The teaching and research area of space propulsion deals with scientific fundamentals and new technologies for application in future rocket propulsion systems.
