Dandrite
DANDRITE is the Danish Node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership in Molecular Medicine, funded by the Lundbeck Foundation and located at Aarhus University. DANDRITE is organizationally placed at two departments: The Department of Biomedicine (Faculty of Health) and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (Faculty of Natural Sciences). We conduct basic and translational research on the brain and nervous system, aiming to uncover the molecular mechanisms that shape how cells communicate within brain circuits.

Odin - Open Discovery Innovation Network
ODIN is a collaboration platform running from 2024-2029 sponsored by the Novo Nordisk Foundation with up to 180 M DKK. ODIN aims to break down the barriers between industry and academia to support precompetitive research in a collaborative, open environment. We aim to accelerate drug discovery through shared knowledge. We fund the academic participation in joint research project across industry and academia. The research projects must address the needs and challenges in the pharma industry, but project ideas can arise both in industry and academia. The funded ODIN projects must share their knowlede and results openly without IP. To spur new ideas, ODIN hosts ideation and matchmaking events, and we help facilitate matchmaking across the industry-academia divide. Text Center For Contemporary Cultures Of Text
The Danish National Research Foundation has invited Aarhus University to enter into negotiations to establish TEXT: Centre for Contemporary Cultures of Text with a framework grant of approximately DKK 38 million over six years. Mission: The Center for Contemporary Cultures of TEXT is focused on understanding the impact of large language models (LLMs) and AI on writing cultures during this pivotal moment in history, where all aspects of text creation and use are being transformed. We believe that a research-driven understanding of the role of text in this new technological environment is essential to maintaining human-centered control over the production and use of text. The center will take on and develop solutions for challenges confronting several academic disciplines and society at large: 1) What are the effects of GAI on text culture, and how can we best assess their consequences? 2) How can research-based knowledge about GAI develop such technologies for text and their usage? 3) How can current limitations in GAI-based language generation be overcome to improve text culture in a digitised society? In essence: How can generative artificial intelligence become a common good for text culture? The center is organized in four sections: 1) Creativity and Co-Creation 2) LLM Hard Assessment 3) Addressing LLM-hard problems in practice 4) LLMs in linguistic analysis and cognitive science

Cnap - Center For Neuroplasticity And Pain
The ambition of CNAP is to identify and modulate key features of human pain neuroplasticity. We keenly believe that this can be achieved through a systematic engineering approach, including provoking, probing and modulation of the dynamic neuroplastic properties of the pain system. CNAP applies a basic research approach where new advanced biomedical provocation and probing platforms are being discovered and applied to study novel aspects of the human pain neuroplasticity. When an injury results in acute pain, the nervous system undergoes an adaptive neuroplastic response resulting in an increase in sensitivity. After some time, the pain neuroplasticity is normalized as the injury heals. In some cases, such neuroplastic processes fail to normalize during convalescence, and acute pain develops into chronic pain with hypersensitivity. The continuing pain after injury resolution may be caused by maladaptive pain neuroplasticity. In contrast, advantageous neuroplasticity permits the nervous system to cope with challenges such as maladaptive pain neuroplasticity to help returning to a pain-free state. Interdisciplinary, international cooperation, and research training combined with the capacity of leading researchers is the core research philosophy of CNAP. Thus, all our research groups are highly interdisciplinary and include experts within e.g. biomedical engineering, neuropsychology, pharmacology, biophysics, and medicine. CNAP is affiliated to the Department of Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University which does multidisciplinary research and teaching in the area of health science and technology.

Dtu Asta
The Autonomous Systems Test Arena (ASTA) is an air dome structure owned by the Technical University of Denmark. Boasting an impressive size of 40x24x14m, it stands as one of the world's largest indoor infrastructures for testing mobile robot technology in three types of environment: land, air, water. The facility provides- large open spaces where to test land and aerial robotic systems in conditions close to the outdoor environment – relying on global navigation satellite system and onboard sensors- a 6.5x3.5x3m deep pool for conducting experiments with underwater robots or surface vessels. The pool is equipped with a counter current unit, enabling more complex testing of water vehicles- an area equipped with a state-of-the-art Motion Capture System comprising 16 cameras, covering a volume of 16x12x8m. This area enables precise position and movement tracking of several robotic systems on land, in the air and on the water surface. The primary mission of ASTA is to foster world-class experimental research in collaborative autonomous robotic systems. Additionally, ASTA aims to position DTU as an international leader in the field of autonomous systems. We believe that the facility can also provide great value to companies and other research institutions and organizations.

Sdu Food Matters
SDU FOOD MATTERS is one of the research areas in the section biotechnology of the Department of Green Technology at Southern Denmark University. We do research on food matter. We bridge fundamental and applied approaches to understand food matter from physical, chemical, sensory, and consumer perspectives, and how these aspects are connected, with a view towards enhancing the taste, health, and sustainability properties of foods. Our goal is to understand how food materials are structured and how this affects their properties both before, during, and after consumption, relating food properties with sensory and consumer evaluations. One of our key strengths lies in the development and application of advanced microscopy techniques and image analysis. These tools enable us to study the microstructure of both simplified and complex food systems, and to explore how microscale phenomena relate to larger-scale characteristics building a hierarchical understanding of the food we eat. We further emphasize sensory analysis via expert and consumer panels, where human assessors describe and quantify perceptual properties complementing instrumental measurements of texture as well as taste and flavor compounds. We have solid experience in using machine learning to establish connections between the quantitative measurements obtained from instrumental food analysis and the sensory experiences of food. This integrative approach allows us to better understand the complex relationships between food structure, sensory perception, and consumer behavior, ultimately contributing to the development of more enjoyable and sustainable food products.

AAU OPEN is Aalborg University's new Open Access competence unit and publishing platform launched in 2024. AAU OPEN Competence Unit offers guidance to AAU's researchers regarding Open Access, including advice on choices and options for Open Access publication of both their research and non-peer reviewed publications. AAU Open Publishing is a not-for-profit publishing platform that exclusively publishes Open Access publications. AAU Open Publishing also publishes PhD theses from Aalborg University as well as a number of journals via journals.aau.dk.

Centre For Absolute Sustainability
Our research within the Centre for Absolute Sustainability is organised according to three pillars, each with contributions to our goal of enabling cross- & interdisciplinary research to guide society in the transition towards absolute sustainability. This transition involves defining safe and sustainable operating spaces for society and activities, developing sustainable technologies and identifying the pathways required for implementation of new solutions. The three research pillars of the Centre are: SYSTEMIC MODELLING: “where should we go?” A systemic and quantitative perspective is needed to define, assess and allocate the sustainability operating space of society. This requires system level modelling and assessment methodologies that cover the different environmental sustainability dimensions, and models that allow us to evaluate the dynamics and constraints in society, and to enable the transition towards a sustainable society. Currently, such models and methodologies do not exist. SYSTEMATIC ENGINEERING: “How should we get there?” Technology development and scale-up need consistent support to ensure that the right solutions are available for society and that these solutions are sustainable at a systems level. This requires data-driven insight into technologies, industry processes and production systems as well as models and decision-support to effectively enable sustainable technologies in society. Today, such guidance and methodological framework are not available in coherent methodology sets. STRATEGIC IMPLEMENTATION: “What should we do to get there?” Sustainable transition and full-scale implementation and integration of the right technologies in society are needed to reach the sustainability goals. This requires strategic and consistent analysis of barriers, technology foresights, framework conditions, and roadmaps to ensure societal impact. Thus far, no comprehensive methodological platform exists to support such analyses and strategic planning.

In the Environmental Social Science Section of the Department of Environmental Science at Aarhus University, we conduct research and provide advisory services and education within the fields of environmental sociology, environmental economics, political science and geography. We integrate different professional disciplines and collaborate with natural scientists in order to describe and devise solutions to environmental problems and challenges related to the aquatic environment and water resources, air pollution, climate, soil, land and nature management, and urban environments. We analyze the environmental consequences of the development of society, and investigate how environmental regulation and management affect society at different levels ranging from everyday life to the national welfare economic level. An important research area is also the optimal implementation of environmental regulation. We continually develop and improve the theoretical and methodological foundation for our empirical analyses.

Microam Villum
With MicroAM, we will introduce microstructural engineering into the field of additive manufacturing (AM) of metals. This will (i) set the stage for optimizing metals microstructures in-situ during the AM process, as well as ex-situ during post-AM treatments, and (ii) enable predictions of the microstructural evolution, and thus the changes in properties, while AM components are in use. AM is at present revolutionizing metal manufacturing, but the huge potential of microstructural engineering, used for decades in conventional manufacturing, has not been systematically explored for AM. Voids are hard to avoid, and local stresses are always present. An additional main task of MicroAM is thus to incorporate the individual and combined effects of voids and local stress into microstructural engineering—this represents a major fundamental challenge and has never been done before, but opens new design opportunities.
