Diis - Dansk Institut For Internationale Studier
DIIS– Danish Institute for International Studies is an independent research institution for international studies, financed primarily by the Danish state. We carry out research and analysis on a wide range of issues within the areas of globalisation, security and development. We participate in national and international debates and academic networks and publish in high-ranking academic journals, always striving to excel in academic scholarship. At the same time, we continuously assess Denmark's foreign and political situation and inform the Danish media, politicians and the public about our work. We have approximately 100 employees, comprising both research and support staff. We have different academic backgrounds, mostly in social studies, international development studies, military studies and anthropology. We contribute to the education of researchers both at home and in developing countries and we employ a number of practitioners from relevant ministries for limited periods of time. These practitioners contribute to our understanding of how our work is used outside academic circles, and this strengthens our ability to bridge the gap between theoretical and applied research. As part of our work as researchers at DIIS we carry out policy-relevant and policy-oriented research within our disciplines. Our research areas are defined on the basis of what we, as researchers, find to be current areas of special interest, and in relation to the surrounding societal and political context. We do basic research, research-based consultancies and commissioned work. Commissioned policy work can be requested by the Danish parliament, its ministries, NGOs and other clients. Our different academic and professional backgrounds, combined with a flexible organisational structure, make it possible for us to adapt smoothly to current trends without losing the continuity necessary for long-term studies, and also enable us to conduct valuable multidisciplinary studies.

Bridging clinical and molecular endocrinology The Molecular Endocrinology Department (KMEB) was established in 2001 as the cellular and molecular research unit of Department of Endocrinology, University Hospital, Odense. Endocrine diseases influence molecules, cells, animals and humans as well as populations and ecosystems. The main focus of KMEB is to integrate clinical endocrinology research with basic molecular and cellular approaches, to study clinically relevant research questions at the cellular and molecular levels and most importantly to to develop new therapies to be tested in clinical trials. The department international research scientists investigate causes, consequences and treatments of endocrine diseases by incorporating information generated across multiple research methodologies including cutting-edge stem cell and other cellular and molecular studies, mouse genetic models, high resolution imaging, bioinformatics and observational clinical studies and interventional clinical trials.

A BRIDGE fellowship is a unique postdoctoral programme consisting of three core elements: education, mentoring and research. The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) belongs to the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen and currently employs around 160 scientists and technical staff with an additional 50 staff members affiliated. The center was established through a donation of DKK 885 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. With Copenhagen as its epicenter, the CBMR works in close collaboration with research groups in the region as well as leading research groups from top-ranking universities in the USA, Europe and China. Center for Almen Medicin ved Aalborg Universitet (CAM AAU) er et tværfagligt akademisk miljø, hvor vi forsker i, hvordan vi forbedrer indsatsen i almen praksis og varetager almenmedicinsk forskningsbaseret undervisning. Vi forsker indenfor flere områder, men har særligt fokus på muskelskeletområdet hos både unge og voksne, anvendelsen af ny teknologi i almen praksis samt kroniske sygdomme, som for eksempel diabetes og stofskiftelidelser. Desuden har vi som fokusområde at sikre implementering og effektiv anvendelse af forskningsresultater. Center for Selvmordsforskning har eksisteret siden 1989 og blev etableret som en selvejende institution under Socialministeriet, nu Social- og Ældreministeriet, i Centeret forsker i belastende og beskyttende faktorer for selvmordsadfærd og anden selvskadende adfærd og indgår i nationale og internationale forskningssamarbejder. Centeret fører to offentlige registre: Register for selvmordsforsøg og Register for Selvmord. Centeret samler, koordinere og formidler kvantitativ og kvalitativ viden om selvmordsadfærd og forebyggelse. Centeret bidrager til undervisning og uddannelse af de personalegrupper, der til daglig arbejder blandt de grupper, hvor risikoen for selvmordsadfærd er høj. Centeret arbejder med at foreslå indsatsområder i det selvmordsforebyggende arbejde. Der er på Centeret 8 ansatte- English Centre for Suicide Research has existed since 1989 and was established as a self-governing institution under the Ministry of Social Affairs (now The Ministry of Social Affairs and Senior Citizens) in The Centre conducts research into epidemiological and cause-orientated research concerning suicidal behaviour and is part of national and international research collaborations. The center maintains two public records: the Register of Suicide Attempts and the Register of Suicides. The Centre gathers, coordinates and disseminates quantitative and qualitative knowledge about suicidal behaviour and prevention. The centre contributes to the teaching and training of staff groups that work among groups where the risk of suicidal behaviour is high. The center works to suggest focus areas in the suicide prevention work.

The Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy) is a department under the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). DTU Energy is focused on education, research, and development within functional materials and their application in sustainable energy technologies. It is our strong belief that the best results are obtained by having technological development take place in tight interaction with fundamental research. The Department, which has 280 employees, is organized into seven sections focusing on scientific competences within, e.g, electrochemistry, synthesis, solid state physics, electron microscopy, catalysis, process technology, rheology and modelling. One of the characteristics of research within energy conversion and storage is the need for many different competences from traditionally separate fields of science. Our activities in the different technologies therefore to a large extent span across several sections. It is common to all our technologies that they depend on functional materials – materials with specific electrical, magnetic, thermal, chemical or electrochemical properties – for their operation. Electron- or ion-conducting ceramics have applications for fuel cells (solid oxide fuel cells, SOFC) and electrolysis cells, photovoltaic polymers may be used for polymer solar cells, and some magnetic materials have applications as active components for efficient refrigeration devices. In addition, the Department operates a test center for fuel cells and hydrogen technologies where industry can get components tested, and a test center for polymer solar cells where organic photovoltaics can be tested under different conditions.
