Nac Lab Natural And Artificial Cognition Laboratory - Federico Ii
Fondato nel 2007, il NAC Lab (Natural and Artificial Cognition Laboratory) dell’Università di Napoli “Federico II” studia, progettare e realizza sistemi di intelligenza artificiale in grado di imitare, simulare o riprodurre i processi cognitivi dei sistemi naturali. Il NAC Lab ha finora coordinato e partecipato a 13 progetti di ricerca internazionali in numerosi settori, tra cui: processi di apprendimento e insegnamento, riabilitazione cognitiva, valutazione psicologica (testing), entertainment, edutainment, robotica educativa, comunicazione alternativa aumentativa e nuovi modelli di fruizione dei beni culturali. I suoi ricercatori collaborano con università, centri di ricerca e aziende di tutta Europa. Negli ultimi dieci anni sono stati sviluppati una ventina di prototipi e pubblicati oltre 250 articoli su riviste internazionali.

Nautilos
NAUTILOS, a Horizon 2020 Innovation Action project funded under EU’s the Future of Seas and Oceans Flagship Initiative, aims to fill in marine observation and modelling gaps for biogeochemical, biological and deep ocean physics essential ocean variables and micro-/nano-plastics, by developing a new generation of cost-effective sensors and samplers, their integration within observing platforms and deployment in large-scale demonstrations in European seas. The principles underlying NAUTILOS will be those of the development, integration, validation and demonstration of new cutting-edge technologies with regards to sensors, interoperability and embedding skills. The development will always be guided by the objectives of scalability, modularity, cost-effectiveness, and open-source availability of software products produced. Bringing together 21 entities from 11 European countries with multidisciplinary expertise, NAUTILOS has the fundamental aim to complement and expand current European observation tools and services, to obtain a collection of data at a much higher spatial resolution, temporal regularity and length than currently available at the European scale, and to further enable and democratize the monitoring of the marine environment to both traditional and non-traditional data users.

Searcularmine
SEArcularMINE is developing leading technologies to ensure the sustainable supply of raw materials for key industrial value chains in Europe. Environmental sustainability is central to the project, embracing the respect for nature of ancient saltwork processes. The project aims to advance the traditional saltworks industry into the 21st Century using current infrastructure and minimising environmental and physical impacts by design. Using very concentrated seawater brine the team will focus on developing innovative, sustainable and cost-effective technologies that will contribute to securing European access to CRM. A critical aspect of the project will be a circular approach, aiming to eliminate the generation of waste streams. This circularity also avoids the use of any external inputs, maximising resource efficiency and economic viability. The project will target very low energy consumption, alongside using novel technology to generate electricity from salinity gradients of seawater. The team will also consider integration with desalination technologies which could potentially help mitigate the water scarcity crisis for local communities. The SEArcularMINE team is composed of 12 partner organisations from universities, research institutes, SMEs and multinationals from Europe and the wider Mediterranean basin co-ordinated by the University of Palermo in Sicily. SEArcularMINE has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 869467 (SEArcularMINE). Seveso sites: assessment of integrated safety-security hazards and risks and related domino effects. Chemical and process plants, energy facilities, oil and gas installations and industrial facilities are the potential target of physical and cyber-attacks. These may trigger cascading ‘domino’ effects such as the release of flammable, explosive, toxic or noxious substances into the environment and accidents in other areas of the plant not initially attacked. Security-related threats could affect coasts, rivers, lakes and densely populated areas at regional and national scale. The Major Accident Reporting System reported 557 accidents in EU for the period 1990-2020; 23 of these accidents resulted in domino effects causing €1.1 billion of damages and €3.2 million of environmental damage.
