We are a group of passionate biomedical engineers developing new methods, electronic technologies, instrumentation and devices for biomedical instrumentation, in particular in the field of respiratory diagnostics and mechanical ventilation. Our research is focused on the bioengineering aspects of respiratory physiology, in particular the kinematics, mechanics and dynamics of the tracheo-bronchial tree, of the lung and of the chest wall and their related modifications induced by diseases. We are recognised experts in new methods for the assessment of respiratory mechanics, in particular those based on the forced oscillations technique.

Webvalley

WebValley is the international FBK summer school for data science and AI-based interdisciplinary research. The school runs in a tech lab, set up by FBK in a cozy village in a scenic valley of Trentino, in the Italian Alps. The WebValley Lab provides computing resources and devices to test new ways of exploring the principles of applied data science and predictive models. Students joining the school work in a lively and interactive environment together with a group of selected experts, also interacting through teleconference with other labs. More than 350 students (17-19y old) have attended the WebValley camps since its first edition in 2001, as true protagonists of a challenging research project. Full (including travel) and partial fellowships are sponsored by FBK, the FBK Trustees Board, and partner organizations, covering full tuition, accommodation, leisure time activities, and local travel costs. Each year, the team includes students from Trentino, nationals and internationals. The requirements to participate are: • High School student (for Italy: 4th year completed) • Good knowledge of English • Enthusiasm in science and new technologies • Above-average school records • 2 letters: 1 Student Motivation letter and 1 Teacher’s Recommendation letter

La missione dell’Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie per l'Energia e la Mobilità Sostenibili del CNR (CNR-STEMS) è quella di dare efficaci risposte alle sfide riguardanti il clima, l’energia e la mobilità: tematiche strettamente collegate che devono essere affrontate con un approccio olistico, anche per quanto riguarda le loro implicazioni per i cittadini e in generale per la società nel suo complesso. In particolare, affronta tematiche di interesse prioritario a livello nazionale e internazionale, quali la de-carbonizzazione dei settori dell’energia e della mobilità, la transizione energetica verso risorse rinnovabili alternative a quelle fossili, il miglioramento dell’efficienza energetica – inteso sia nell’ambito della mobilità sia all’interno dei vari comparti industriali, tra cui l’agricolo e l’off-road. Le attività di ricerca riguardano anche l’utilizzo di sensoristica distribuita e l’applicazione di metodologie avanzate di data analytics nella gestione ed ottimizzazione dei sistemi energetici. L’Istituto nasce con la finalità di costituire un punto di eccellenza Nazionale in grado di interpretare al meglio le sfide a cui il Paese e chiamato a confrontarsi con la consapevolezza che il processo di cambiamento del sistema nazionale energetico e della mobilità verso nuovi modelli e sistemi flessibili, resilienti, sicuri e in grado di massimizzare l’utilizzo delle fonti energetiche rinnovabili richiede oltre alla verifica tecnica delle soluzioni proposte la verifica della loro sostenibilità economica, ambientale e sociale.
