Reliance Project
RELIANCE will extend the EOSC service offering with a set of industry-strong, innovative, interconnected services for the open, efficient, and cross-disciplinary management of the research lifecycle. In accordance with FAIR and Open Science principles, it will adopt a holistic approach to address different research activities, spanning: discovery of and access to research data, methods and materials; extraction of valuable information from scientific literature; structuring data-driven scientific investigations as semantically rich research objects; FAIR-ness self-assessment; dynamic collaboration, sharing and dissemination considering the whole lifecycle as a first-class citizen; and supporting reproducibility, validation, versioning and reuse of research results. Core to the service portfolio are Research Objects as the overarching information artefact to manage research, Data Cubes for efficient and scalable structured data access and discovery, and Text Mining for the extraction of information from scientific text as machine-readable metadata. RELIANCE will pilot the services in three different Earth Science communities, fostering the use of Copernicus data and demonstrating their efficacy in real-life vertical and multi-disciplinary scenarios, and will launch an Open Call to engage other communities. The high-TRL research-enabling services portfolio will be onboarded in ESOC following established procedures, ensuring the interplay with cross-cutting and added value services, and following a user-centric approach. RELIANCE will expose its services via APIs and libraries, enabling their use via different frontends and Jupyter notebooks. RELIANCE brings into EOSC more than research objects from research communities like Earth Science, represented by three project partners, but also others like Astrophysics and Bioinformatics, which have embraced research objects concept and tools, and will become the best ambassadors to enlarge and engage new communities

The National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) is the Italian research agency dedicated to the study of the fundamental constituents of matter and the laws that govern them, under the supervision of the Ministry of Universities and Research. It conducts theoretical and experimental research in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear and astroparticle physics. All of the INFN’s research activities are undertaken within a framework of international competition, in close collaboration with Italian universities on the basis of solid academic partnerships spanning decades. Fundamental research in these areas requires the use of cutting-edge technology and instruments, developed by the INFN at its own laboratories and in collaboration with industries. Groups from the Universities of Rome, Padua, Turin, and Milan founded the INFN on 8thAugust 1951 to uphold and develop the scientific tradition established during the 1930s by Enrico Fermi and his school, with their theoretical and experimental research in nuclear physics. In the latter half of the 1950s the INFN designed and built the first Italian accelerator, the electron synchrotron developed in Frascati, where its first national laboratory was set up. During the same period, the INFN began to participate in research into the construction and use of ever-more powerful accelerators being conducted by CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, in Geneva. Today the INFN can count on the contribution of a community of people whose work is recognised internationally not only for their contribution to various European laboratories, but also to numerous research centres worldwide.

Costituito nel l'Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) raccoglie e valorizza le competenze e le risorse di cinque istituti già operanti nell'ambito delle discipline geofisiche e vulcanologiche: l'Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica; l'Osservatorio Vesuviano; l'Istituto Internazionale di Vulcanologia; l'Istituto di Geochimica dei Fluidi; l'Istituto per la Ricerca sul Rischio Sismico. L'INGV è nato con l'obiettivo di raccogliere in un unico polo le principali realtà scientifiche nazionali nei settori della geofisica e della vulcanologia. Coopera con numerose università e altre istituzioni di ricerca nazionali e internazionali; è attualmente la più grande istituzione europea nel campo della geofisica e vulcanologia e una delle più grandi nel mondo. Le sedi principali si trovano a Roma, Milano, Bologna, Pisa, Napoli, Catania e Palermo. La missione principale dell'INGV è il monitoraggio dei fenomeni geofisici nelle due componenti fluida e solida del nostro pianeta. All'INGV è affidata la sorveglianza della sismicità dell'intero territorio nazionale e dell'attività dei vulcani italiani attraverso reti di strumentazione tecnologicamente avanzate, distribuite sul territorio nazionale o concentrate intorno ai vulcani attivi. L'INGV opera in stretto contatto con il Ministero dell'Istruzione, Università e Ricerca (MIUR) e ha legami privilegiati con il Dipartimento della Protezione Civile e con le altre autorità preposte alla gestione delle emergenze, sia a scala nazionale che a scala locale. Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli
The Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation is one of the major European centres of documentation and research in the field of social, historical, economic and political sciences. Born in 1949 from a private initiative of Giangiacomo Feltrinelli as a library specialized in the collection and preservation of materials and documents related to the history of the laboring movement, soon it expanded its purposes and areas of interest. Converted first into an Institution, and then into a Foundation thanks to an administrative order of the President of the Republic of the 27th of April 1974. From the 25th of March 1961 until the 13th of December 2016 it has been located in via Romagnosi 3 in Milan. Today it is located in viale Pasubio 5 in Milan, inside a new space of citizenship designed by the architectural firm Herzog and De Meuron. This new building hosts 12 linear km of archive, a Feltrinelli library, the Babitonga Cafè, the Sala Polifunzionale, the Sala Lettura and offices. The Fondation owns a library and an archive that include 1,5 million of historical documents, volumes and periodicals. These materials are freely accessible for the public and primarily intended to allow research activity of professors, academics, scholars etc. The Foundation organizes seminars, international conferences, lectures, exhibitions, research activities and many other cultural initiatives thanks to the involvement of both Italian and international experts. Main issues are related to modern and contemporary history, political, economic and social history, ideas, political cultures and democratic movements, social sciences, globalization and multiculturalism, according to specific guidelines dictated by the scientific committee.

Gssi - Gran Sasso Science Institute
The Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) is an international PhD school and a center for research and higher education. The GSSI aims to create a new center of scientific excellence in L’Aquila fostering the skills and highly specialized structures already present in the area, such as the Gran Sasso National Laboratories of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the University of L'Aquila, facilitating the attraction of high-level resources in the fields of natural and social sciences. All the GSSI areas are encompassed by the awareness of the complexity of today's world, where the ability of interpreting large amounts of data is increasingly critical for making correct and timely decisions. This is why no barriers stand between our areas of study and research, as it always should be between different fields of knowledge. Cross-fertilization, leading to the contamination of interests and study methods typical of different disciplines, is a feature that we want to be present in our activities. The PhD program (started in the academic year 2013-2014) is organized in the scientific areas of physics, mathematics and computer science and social sciences (management of innovation and regional development). Professors, researchers and students from all scientific areas are selected internationally, following the standards of the best graduate schools worldwide. The GSSI aims to activate and develop additional courses for students enrolled at the University of L'Aquila, research projects involving professors, researchers, students of the GSSI and professionals of the private sector and training courses for the staff of the Public Administration to promote the development of the local area.
