Industrial And Production Engineering University Of Ibadan, Nigeria
Department of Industrial and Production Engineering was established in 1980 but commenced in 1982 when the right caliber of lecturers were recruited. It was designed by Industrial and Production Engineers having wealth of experience in industry and academics. On its first visitation in 1988, COREN gave the programme full accreditation and has remained fully accredited till date. The first set of students graduated in the 1987/88 session resulting in a big rush by industry for immediate deployment in the NYSC programme. The department is unique being the first of its type in black Africa and also the first to teach Industrial Engineering concepts as service courses to the students of the Faculty of Technology. Some portions of the core courses were extracted and modified for Post-experience short courses for practicing Engineers. Over participants from more than 100 companies in West Africa have benefited since 1983. Our M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes are first of their kind in Nigeria and is one of the most sought after postgraduate degree programmes in the University. In 1990, the National Universities Commission deemed it fit to rename the department: INDUSTRIAL AND PRODUCTION ENGINEERING hence the content of our B.Sc. was modified, placing equal emphasis on Production as well as Industrial Engineering. The programme curriculum is again being reviewed to make our graduates more competitive and relevant in the global economy. Courses in the area of supply chain management, computer software development, entrepreneurship have been added in the newly reviewed version. Master of Engineering Management (M.E.M) was introduced in 2012. This program aimed at producing a crop of Engineers adequately equipped for effective participation in the management of engineering and technology-based organizations, and management of technological change, is designed for post experience engineering graduates.
