Atlantic Path
The Atlantic Partnership for Tomorrow’s Health (PATH) study is longitudinal cohort studying factors related to cancer and chronic disease. Atlantic PATH is a regional cohort of the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow's Health (CanPath), the largest study of its kind ever undertaken in Canada. CanPath is a pan-Canadian longitudinal cohort study investigating how genetics, the environment, lifestyle, and behaviour contribute to the development of chronic diseases. CanPath is following the health of over people for 30 years in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The Atlantic PATH Research Portal holds data on over participants from all four Atlantic Provinces. The dataset includes information about health, lifestyle, environment and behaviour of participants. Additionally, large subsets of participants have also provided physical measures and biological samples such as blood, urine, saliva, and toenails. More information about the questionnaires and biological samples can be found at: http://atlanticpath.ca/are-you-a-researcher The data and biological samples that participants have provided will help researchers find out why some people develop certain chronic diseases and others don’t. The data access process involves an initial consultation (to establish feasibility and provide a cost-recovery estimate), application submission and evaluation, and data access and reporting. More information about the data access process can be found at: http://atlanticpath.ca/are-you-a-researcher/access-our-data Atlantic PATH is an extraordinary resource for researchers in Atlantic Canada, it is rich in epidemiological and biological data that can help researchers save time, effort, and money that would normally need to be spent recruiting study participants and collecting data/biological samples.

Canadian Centre For Alternatives To Animal Methods Ccaam
The Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods (CCAAM) and the Canadian Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (CaCVAM) aim to develop, validate, and promote non-animal, human biology-based platforms in biomedical research, education, and chemical safety testing. Experimental animals continue to serve as the gold standard in biomedical research today, but many breakthroughs in research labs do not make it into our clinics—95% of drugs tested to be safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials. Similarly, for evaluating the safety of chemicals, the legacy animal-based methods are not sufficiently reliable to accurately predict adverse outcomes on human health and the environment. From the Americas to the Far East, countries across the globe have already established national centres dedicated to non-animal alternatives and approved legislation to shift away from animal testing, but Canada has lagged behind, until now—our Centre is the first-of-its-kind in Canada. We promote a paradigm shift in which human biology serves as the gold standard. Time to change the gold standard. Time to place Canada on the map.
