The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) is a national research university in Hefei, Anhui, China, under the direct leadership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). It is a member of the C9 League formed by nine top universities in China. Founded in Beijing by the CAS in September 1958, it was moved to Hefei in the beginning of 1970. USTC was founded with the mission of addressing urgent needs to improve China's economy, defense infrastructure, and science and technology education. Its core strength is scientific and technological research, and more recently has expanded into humanities and management with a strong scientific and engineering emphasis. Institute of Zoology (IOZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is a government-funded research institute in zoological sciences, and it has a long history of 80 years. The predecessor of IOZ was Fan Memorial Institute of Biology founded in 1928. Many distinguished scientists including thirteen CAS Academicians started their research career in IOZ. Some of them are the founders of various sub-disciplines of zoology in China, such as Professor Bing Zhi, one of the main founders of modern biology in China. CEPRI Established in 1951, China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) is a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary research institute affiliated to the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). CEPRI is devoted to R&D, testing and inspection, and technical standard formulation that are of fundamental and universal significance to power grids. RERC Renewable Energy Research Center Founded in 2006, the Renewable Energy Research Center (RERC) was formerly known as the New Energy Research Dpartment and originated from the New Energy Power Generation Institute founded in 1994. In March 2012, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) determined to integrate the Renewable Energy Research Division of CEPRI and the Clean Energy Power Generation Research Division of SGCC Electric Power Research Institute into the New Energy Research Department of CEPRI. In April 2016, the Renewable Energy Research Center was founded.
