Formerly known as IMPRS-CMB (International Max Planck Research School in Chemical and Molecular Biology), our graduate program is now called International Max Planck Research School for Living Matter: from molecules to dynamics (IMPRS-LM). Building on the experience of the past 18 years, the IMPRS-LM offers an international, interdisciplinary, and modern PhD program for young scientists that are interested in dissecting the molecular, chemical and physical properties that characterize bio-molecular interactions • How do molecules interact? • When and where do interactions occur within a cell or an organism? • What is the molecular outcome of an interaction? • How can we modulate or control a specific interaction (also for therapeutic purposes)? • How do many interactions come together to form a dynamic and self-organized biochemical network? To answer these questions, we train a new generation of life scientists that are passionate about BIOLOGY, that are would like to understand the CHEMISTRY at the basis of life and that are fascinated, like PHYSICISTS, by the dynamic behaviour of living matter. The IMPRS-LM is a joint PhD Program between the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, the Technical University Dortmund, the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen. All four institutes are located in the Ruhr Metropolitan Area of Germany, an extremely vibrant and culturally interconnected region. The IMPRS-LM provides an amazing environment for young, talented and ambitious scientists to start an academic career in the field of life sciences. The IMPRS-CBP is an international doctoral training program uniting the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics, Goethe University Frankfurt, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS). Max Planck Institute For Plasma Physics
Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Garching and Greifswald is one of the largest fusion research centres in Europe. It is concerned with investigating a new source of energy. Around 1100 employees in research, technology, craftsmanship and administration contribute to developing the physical basis for a fusion power plant, which, like the sun, is to generate energy from fusion of light atomic nuclei. At Garching, IPP is operating the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak. The Wendelstein 7-X stellarator is being investigated at the Greifswald Branch Institute of IPP. IPP was founded in 1960. It is an institute of the Max Planck Society and also associated to the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres. Since 1961 IPP has been an associate of the European Fusion Research Programme.
